for a room that is 4m by 4m, what size of lcd t.v. would be best for us?

It all depends how far you plan to sit away from the TV.
Assuming 1-2 meters for space to put the TV and the couch, I would say anything between 40" and 46" should be OK.

100 to 120 CM would be ideal for you.....
