Send her an e-card or even just write her a letter telling her how bad you feel, and what you will do to make sure you never forget again. Also tell her what a wonderful mother she is for caring about you so much (to get that upset that you're gone missing).

Maybe even offer to help others avoid the same situation by the two of you volunteering for a missing children's organization.

Iam sorry to hear that, but I can understand where your mother is coming from wanting ensure your safety and to know how you are getting on and if everything is OK,you could write her a note explaining that you are sorry and that you understand the importance of ringing her, decorate the note with colours and just make it look nice in general leave it on the table or somewhere she will see it and then hopefully she will understand that you know better for the next time.

The best thing for you to do is sit down with her when she comes home and talk to her about the situation. Although she will think it is a nice gesture that you baked and cleaned she was worried about you more then anything. You need to make her understand how guilty you feel and how the last thing you wanted to do was make her worry. She will feel better after you talk things out and remember to not do it again!

Write her a note and tell her how sorry you are for making her worry and that you realize that you made a mistake. she has to read it and then you can get everything out without any interuptions or arguments.
