I know what you mean.
The fact is that the liquor industry doesn't want the competition they would face with legal pot. The oil companies don't want the competition with hemp. Both industries have enough money to spread around Washington, DC to keep pot illegal, for now. Police agencies for whom pot is a large reason for their existence don't want pot legalized either, mostly as a job-security issue.
BTW, the government could easily go into the pot sales market.
Run it like the government runs liquor. Sell it at state-approved stores. It would crush illegal pot growers, just like moonshiners, who are all but non-existent these days.As government-contracted growers, many farmers could legally prosper, thereby helping preserve our agrarian
heritage.

It is classified as a drug so that the government can make it illegal.
The government wants to make it illegal because it is part of the "culture wars" that has been going on since the 20's-30's. It became a "big deal" during the 50's and early 60's with the "beat" generation and then exploded in the late 60's and early 70's with the hippies and left wing political movements.
Today's "culture wars" came out of this. Back then, the people who were "cool" smoked and the people who weren't didn't.
Because of the government "turning up the heat" on pot, today most of the people selling pot also sell the real bad stuff and most of them also carry guns! In the 60's it was simple to buy and safe. Today it's risky business and expensive.

Pot is drug and so is Vicaddine and Alcohol and many other stuff. but the difference between any legal drug and a prohibited drug is all in accordance with the law. If the law says its illegal , regarless if its a drug, it will be ilegal. Cigarrettes should be ilegal too. I guess you cant win them all. Or lose em all. Ive smoked pot for 12 years and i still think its medicinal. especially at night time when i cant fall asleeep . Relaxing and nice mood along with greatfull taste buds makes me not need anything else(other drugs). Legalize it Please Dont terrorize it.

It doesn't have to be synthetic to be considered a drug. Also the government can make money off it, they choose not all. All the people who smoke pot and want it legalized have to realize that the government will tax it like cigarrettes, or gas where more than 50% of the cost is taxes. Expect to pay double what you do pay now.

Terms come to mind. Like...under the influence....impared...
intoxicated....which, to the law enforcement community have a special meaning.
Tell the nice officer when he smells the " pot smell " emitted from your vehicle at the time you were detained ( pulled over )
that pot is not considered a drug.
Tell the nice officer/s that it is a " natural smell " that he/she is smelling.
I am sure they will totally agree and ask you if you could spare a " pinch " from your plastic baggie to give to them for a" natural" high before they end their watch in peace and love.

It's not a drug... it's a plant.... but it's also a "controlled substance".
"Mind altering" does not classify a substance as a drug. Lots of things can be mind altering but not considered drugs... Example: bleach, gasoline, paint, chocolate, oxygen. < none of which are drugs.
A drug is an organic substance that has undergone a chemical reaction, extraction, or purification process to yeild a derivitive which is intended to be used to induce a physiological or psychological change in a living creature.
Another example... Coca plants are not drugs... cocaine is a drug derived from coca leaves. Crack is a drug created combining heat, cocaine, and baking soda. Chocolate is not a drug, but you can extract caffeine from it, which is a drug. Also nutmeg oil, or sassafrass oil ...can be chemically altered to create thousands of different types of methamphetamines.(usually referred to as ecstasy)...but nutmeg is also a food, and sassafrass is also an ingredient in root beer !

well, no it is a drug...like if you found a natural mushroom growing on your lawn...that's still a drug too...although some people (probably those who've never tried it) consider pot a hallucinogen...believe me the government wil make money off of it no matter what...even when it's illegal...when you buy a lighter, when you buy a bong, the gas you use to get there, if you get caught and fined, they confinscate your pot and sell it to laboratories. It's a drug, but it's less dangerous and more effective than tylonal.

Nice try, but no dice - a drug is any substance that has a measurable effect on the body. By this definition, oxygen is a drug. Yet it's as common as air.
Besides, just because it's "natural" doesn't mean it's good for you, or even safe. Rattlesnake venom is natural - the snake made it all on its own, without a refinery, or even a prescription.

Main Entry: 1drug
2: a substance other than food intended to affect the structure or function of the body (4): a substance intended for use as a component of a medicine but not a device or a component, part, or accessory of a device
3: something and often an illegal substance that causes addiction, habituation, or a marked change in consciousness

While many drugs clearly fall into the category of either Stimulant, Depressant, Hallucinogen, or Antipsychotic, cannabis, containing both THC and CBD, exhibits a mix of all sections, leaning towards the Hallucinogen section due to THC being the primary constituent.
