First I believed in things I didn't understand, because my parents told me to.
Then I felt a spiritual "high" sometimes, especially during really good music or when in nature, which made me believe there is something "more" out there.
Then I lost faith in those things that I was taught as a child.
But because of the experiences, I'm still looking for what God really is.

I was told about God when I was a small child, so the opportunity to "experience" him in order to believe in him was taken away from me. Not that I expect that would have ever happened, anyway.
I've been told faith has to be built up and nurtured.. that is the explanation they give me for why I have never been able to feel certainty about God's existence, anyway. I'm supposed to keep trying and read the Bible and pray about it. But what's the point?
I'll admit that when my friend died unexpectedly in January, I did attempt to turn to God. I did feel like I had that "God-shaped hole" in my heart or whatever. At the time it DID seem like I was experiencing God. But looking back now, I think all I was experiencing was myself looking for some type of hope that my friend wasn't gone forever.

Revelation came first, the revelation that I had faith in myself, my fellow man, and laws of nature and science that I knew to be true, and that could be proven.

I had faith because I was told to, then I had a revelation and found the truth.

Revelation... I was raised one way, and struggled to believe... found my own path through revelation and Faith grew from there.
