Dan Barker or Richard Dawkins? Perhaps prominent is an ambigous term in this context. Who do like more. It seems like people are always talking about Dawkins but I find Barker`s arguements to be much more articulate and substantive.

I like Chris Hitchens, I find Dawkins to be tiresome and a bit arrogant at times, but of course he is a hugely important Atheist.

Well I've never heard of Dan Barker so it looks like I have to say Dawkins.

I don't think the arguments are what sets apart one atheist from another - many here come up with new analogies and ways to express how silly theistic thought really is but most of the arguments rely on common sense (relying onthe common sense of the person you're arguing with is where it often falls down) after all, as good as the god delusion was, all you could really say about it was that it brought together all the arguments in one place.

Hmm... You aren't the publisher for Mr Barker's book, are you?

I'd say Dawkins is more prominent, but honestly I don't much care for either of them. Barker seems to have switched sides but uses the same style of argument, and Dawkins comes off as a Rush Limbaugh type (albeit a charming British version).

Personally I would have liked it to have been Douglas Adams as the noted voice for atheism, but perhaps that's just romanticization of the deceased.

I think the fractured nature of the atheist movement is one of its virtues, personally.

I've not heard Barker. Dawkins seems bent on alienating religious people--he'll never convince Christians to look at Natural Selection objectively, and that's kind of a shame.

O'Hare is the most prominent that I can think of.

The woman responsible for getting organized prayer removed from the public school system...

Talk about a step in the right direction.
