I personally am a plus sized 18 and I decided on a halter dress for my wedding dress...well I've seen far too many Brides 22+ lately wearing strapless gowns and looking all insecure in their photos...why do it? And then they're worried their boobs are going to pop out when they dance. Aren't you suppose to be classy that day? I'm all for saying a Plus sized Bride CAN look as good as a smaller Bride But respect yourself...Sorry--My pet peeve of that day! I think being a bigger girl I CAN say this! LOL!

Girlpish--the "cap" sleeve option is nice too. :)

Sum1- your dress is gorgeous & so are you! I love the sleeve you have. :) I was referring to Brides that you take one look at and they look like they shouldn't be wearing a strapless dress. You look perfect--you don't need to lose weight!

Pls. note--I wasnt downgrading bigger women, I am one! All I was saying is respect yourself--I'm sure you don't want people knowing what your breasts look like on your wedding day!

That has been one of my pet peeves with plus sized women in general. Not just wedding dresses. As a former plus sized girl... i see a new generation of plus sized girls who are in denial of the fact they are plus sized. KNOW YOUR LIMITATIONS.... if you have love handles, dont buy low rise jeans! If you have DDs, yes... it is required by fashion law that you wear a bra!

I know it sucks that you cant wear EVERYTHING the lil toothpick tricks wear, but there have been serious advancements in womens plus sized fashion. Enbrace your size, love your size, but most importantly WEAR your size (dont try and squeeze into something you know you haev no business in)

Thank you! I am so over the strapless dress phenominen. It seems to be all people are wearing these days. And it is not just the plus sized brides that can look uncomfortable or odd. I have seen some tiny brides look like it is about to slide off and they are hitching it up all day.
I have big boobs and I can not ever imagine wearing a strapless gown. I guess I have never tried one on, but I wonder how some of these girls keep them up.
I love the look of a halterneck and that is what my dream dress will be, but also I wonder about it pulling on my neck and being uncomfortable.
I guess this is where having an expert fit your gown comes in.
And I think it is time for dress designers to start coming up with some new style dresses. The last three weddings I have been to looked as if the brides all wore the same dress.

(To sum1spcl - your gown is GORGEOUS! Well chosen!)
One reason I mentioned her gown is mostly because of the dropped, or basque, waist. That hides a myriad of 'sins', and lets the beautiful skirt flow down nicely over the hips.
Gosh, I was plus sized at my wedding, too, and found I looked the best in a very traditional gown with long sleeves, scoop neck and the basque waistline, in a soft bridal satin so it flowed beautifully. And, our wedding was the end of July and it was HOT, so that was my 'suffering for beauty'.
I always hope a bride chooses something which makes HER feel beautiful, and is just not following a trend.
I've never seen a big woman in a strapless, but maybe a 16. Bulges everywhere.
Otherwise, it's just funny to watch a bride and the bridesmaids all tugging and pulling through the ceremony and reception. Just crazy.

I couldn't get over how pretty the halter dress looked on me--I was expecting something MUCH worse! In the end, though, the dress I ended up falling in love with was neither strapless nor halter--it has thin (not spaghetti) straps!...Who knows what kind of spell these dresses can cast!!!! hahaha

I don't think anyone should be uncomfortable on their wedding day just to follow a trend. And....besides the strapless gowns that aren't suited to the bride, my peeve is brides and maids wearing these high heels they cannot walk in without looking like Frankenstein. If you can't walk normally in heels, do not wear them. It makes you look awkward, at best.

I think this is because, when looking around and online, 95% of the dresses presented are strapless so women get this stupid idea in their head that a strapless dress is "THE" appropriate wedding dress to wear.
I found a design I love, unfortunately it is strapless (and I'm busty), so I'm bringing a cousin who sews amazingly with me when I try it on in order to determine if we could make straps for it. If its not do-able then I've got to look at other designs.
I only started looking over the summer so I am hoping that once some of the winter designs make an appearance that they will have sleeves.

I have started looking for gowns myself (yippy!) and I know exactly what you're talking about (I'm a size 18 as well). I personally don't like strapless gowns on my body. I am convinced I would have a "wardrobe malfunction" if I wore one. The girls are too big for me to trust that the dress would stay where it should. I like the halter style, but it looks weird on me. Maybe I just haven't found the right halter-style dress? I think I need to focus on gowns with short or 3/4 length sleeves.

I personally am not plus sized, but i do have plus sized breasts, so know exactly why people would do the strapless thing (if everyone has the same problem as I do..). I cannot do a halter comfortably. It puts the pressure on my neck rather than my shoulders, so I'd rather invest in a great dress and a good bra.

as for the pictures and uncomfortableness, I don't know why people do that and agree that anyone can look good if they feel good about themselves!

I was a plus size bride and a strapless dress would make me feel very uncomforatble. A Woman should dress her size to flatter her When my sister Got married her stress was strapless and she is a plus size woman however she wore a jacket with her gown and she looked radiant and beatuiful and never once did she take off the jacket. I wore a lond sleeve dress that was slightly off the shoulder but it was classy modest and beatuiful. This was a good question.

I'm a plus size and i got married 2 months ago i wore a strapless dress and i didn't feel insecure an the dress was secure as well i think if you get a good dress maker to adjust your dress then you should be OK and as for saying your supposed to be classy i think i was and so did everybody else. So don't go saying that all bigger girls should wear what you wear I'm happy with my size and was HAPPY with my dress so i think you should keep you opinions to your self and let other people wear what they want to wear.

I don't know.

I'm a plus sized bride, I found a strapless dress I like but not too sure about because of what you said, I might fall out!

I'm thinking of seeing if I can get some spaghetti straps put on without it looking goofy, to help support the dress.

You're right - people should dress for their body type. Different styles look good on different people. Anyone of any size can look amazing in the right clothes, but we don't all look good in the same thing. Most people aren't built like the gown models. And that's good - bones and pointy bits sticking out aren't that cute :-)

I'm a size 2 - but not because I'm 10 feet tall and weigh 3 pounds. I'm just short (5'2") and have a small frame. Dresses that look absolutely fabulous on my tall, plus sized friend look completely ridiculous on me...and vice versa. Anything with even a kind-of full skirt made me look like a 4-year-old playing dress-up! not good! lol!

By the way, the poster who put up links to her pictures - you look awesome! That's a great dress!
