No offense intended Trey, but if your .30-30 "lacks killing power," you are probably not putting the bullet in the right spot.

Repeatable accuracy is more important than power. Besides, no .30-30 (or any other rifle) has enough power to make up for poor bullet placement.

Test several different loads in your rifle and pick the one that gives the best 100 and 150 yard accuracy. Then practice, a lot.

Is there a possibility that part of your problem might be a mild case of Buck Fever? If it is, don't be ashamed, it happens to almost everyone at one time or another. Hell, I once missed a deer at 15 feet with a shotgun because of Buck Fever.

As long as you don't ask too much, as in shooting much past 200 yards, the old .30-30 will keep bringing home the meat, just as it has done for the last 113 years.

there is a new bullet called the leveroution made for the 30-30 I have no personaql experience with it but i here great things about it, you should really check those out, other than that I have a friend who uses winchester 170 grn silvertips and he has very good success inside 150 yrds it aint moving.

The .30-.30 Leverevolution ammo gives about an 8-10% bump up in performance, about the same as the difference between .30-.30 and .30-.30 Ackley Improved.
Together they turn the .30-30 into a very different cartridge. Instead of 150grains @ 2400fps, now you have 160 grains @ 2600fps. AND with a bullet that has the aerodynamics to hold velocity much better than the old flat or round nose lever gun bullets...

That's nipping at the heels of .308Win performance--but out of a levergun with a tubular magazine.

I use a Marlin 30-30 lever action for long range I use 170gn copper blue point. Under 125 yards I like the way a 190 hollow point fly's. The blue point set point is 250 yards. I have to admit my scope is worth 3 times the rifle. I use a dial in laser point. range is set after you set up at max range. then dial in less. Bass pro shop. luck

Go with Hornady heavy grain boat tail bullet.* Lots to choose from.* The most important thing as always is proper bullet placement for the kill shot.* One shot one kill.*
