Obviously things like tracksuit bottoms, trainers, etc. But I was wondering if you wear this to the gym, or whether you go in your normal clothes and get changed once you're there?
And is a regular t-shirt OK to wear or should you wear a tracksuit top or a vest or something? Because I heard men aren't allowed to wear vests due to armpit hair? (Not sure if that was a rumour or not but I did hear it.)

By vest I mean a tanktop (I think... is that the american word for a vest?)
And I was looking online and apparently one gym banned vests/tanktops whatever you call them as some people were offended by armpit hair.

I wear workout shorts and shirt to the gym. A regular t-shirt is fine. By vest, I'm assuming you are talking about a sleeveless shirt or tank top, and they are fine too. Lots of people wear them. Nobody is concerned about armpit hair.

Don't worry so much about it mate.
I have been going the gym and training regularly for over 10 years now since I was 15/16, and there are two types of people. Those who go in brand new, snazzy sports clothes they just got from JJB, but don't do any work because the sweat would detract from their posing, and those who just wear what they are comfortable in and do a proper workout.
Personally (and I get changed AT the gym and shower afterwards, anything else is wierd) I just wear shorts and an old tatty vest top, coz they're only gonna get drenched in sweat then thrown in my bag anyway. But most of all they are comfy, do not restrict my movement, and aren't too warm when I get a sweat on.
But what you wear is a personal decision, as long as it fits the above criteria you should be fine though. Just enjoy it!

to answer your first question, i would say it all depends on where you are coming from and how the gym fits into your schedule. if you have to hit the gym on the way to or from work or school, then you'd obviously be changing at the gym. if you were going straight to the gym from your home, then you'd just wear the appropriate attire -- for me it's a t-shirt, mesh shorts or pants, and my nikes or adidas. be prepared for some sights in the locker room, as i've found most older men aren't one bit shy......
as for your second question, what the hell kind of vest are you talking about wearing to the gym???? and why wouldn't a t-shirt be okay? where do you live that you actually think someone would question you about wearing a t-shirt to a gym??? and what's this about armpit hair?? if you really want to wear this vest of yours up in the gym and your concerned about your pits, shave them!!!! or better yet, just wear something normal like a t-shirt or sweatshirt and athletic shorts....

You know it depends on the day i am having and the weather. I live in the Midwest and when we are having a real bad snowstorm i would wear my clothes and than change at the gym. i wear sweat pants and a shirt. i am not sure about the vest thing, i have not heard anything about that, but i do know that i have not seen a man wear on to the gym. usually they are wearing a tank top or t-shirt

If I go after work, I go in my regular work clothes than change once I get there...
If its the weekend, I'll go in some exercise shorts and a wife beater tshirt...or a big baggy tshirt...it all depends on my mood...
I can't for the life of me understand why you would want ot wear a vest to the gym though.

I usually go at night on weekdays and I change at home. I wear a regualr t-shirt and sweat pants. I see people wear vest at my gym 24 hours. I always take a towel because I sweat too much.

Athletic shorts and a white t-shirt. Dark colors attract heat so you want to wear a cool colered shirt so that you dont dehydrate as quickly. Athletic shorts let your legs breath and are very flexible, great for excersising the legs, thighs and hips.

A t-shirt is perfectly suitable, I usually wear my clothes there and bring a change of clothes, but my hubby changes once he gets there so it really depends on your preference but I change again because I love going into the pool, Id bring deoterent, shampoo, conditioner, and soap with a change of clean clothes. Have fun... its a nice stress reliever.
