There are many options for whitening your teeth. You can even get veneers over top if whitening is not an option. Speak with your dentist.

Your teeth are probably discolored because you were treated with tetracycline when you were an infant. Your teeth are healthy but they are probably grayish in color am I right? The "stains" are on the inner side of your enamel much which is also seen on the enamel of people who have smoked for years. Over the counter whitening products will not work because they remove stains on the outer surface of your teeth. This is why a lot of dentists are not worried by the vast array of over the counter products like Crest white strips etc. because they all work on essentially the same principle of cleaning stains on the outer enamel. You will have to get your teeth professionally whitened either through a bleaching tray or a zoom whitening.

I would not buy an over the counter bleaching tray kit. For one thing, the mouthpiece isn't fitted properly which will inhibit the proper bleaching of your teeth and enable the bleach to touch unwanted surrounding areas like your gums, toungue etc. In addition, the bleach provided in those kits are not very strong and the ones the dentist provides are at a much higher concentration. True, this could cause some pain and discomfort but the dentist can then adjust the strength of the bleach.

I would do a google search about whitening, and tetracycline discolored teeth. You may not need to get the Zoom whitening to achieve results but I'm sure a dentist will recommend that since it's the more expensive procedure. you might consider asking a question to people with tetracycline discoloered teeth and seeing if a bleaching tray did the job. I'm a medical student and not a dentist but I've spoken to several dentists about this issue.

well...it depends on what you call a "perfect smile." If you're meaning the smile of a movie star, then you'll most likely have to resort to paying a couple hundred dollars to go to the dentist and get your teeth whitened. The average American tends to have yelllowish teeth. It ok. Just brush twice a day and floss whenever you can.
