Hey y'all I have a friend that's taken to calling me 'shorty'. I want to say something to him in french calling HIM shorty (or the like) so he won't know what the heck I'm talking about.
I'd like to say, 'au contraire, mon petite ami', but I'm not entirely sure what it means. if anyone has a better comeback, please tell me and PLEASE give a pronunciation-i'm not really advanced in the language.
THANKS!!!

btw-he's not supposed to understand it; otherwise i'd just say it in english. i wanna drive him crazy-then when he asks me what it means and i tell him, he'll quit calling me shorty. but why would he call me that in the first place? I just don't get it.... oh well.

Don't say mon "petit ami", even if grammaticaly speaking it means my little friend, we only use it to say boyfriend in France. I'm thinking of to words for the first one is schtroumpf (french comics...), the second one is "minus" (mee-nüsse). My friends used to call me minus when i was younger and smaller than everybody and it really bothered me for a while... I don't care anymore cause i'm taller than most of them now haha

"Au contraire, mon petit schtroumpf" means "On the contrary, my little smurf" You ever watch that cartoon? It was French, you know. That's what the others are talking about. There's also, "mon petit gnome" (my little gnome) and "mon petit nain" (my little midget). When you address someone as "mon petit," it means you love them (works for all types--brotherly, familial, or romantic).

a comeback that he doesn't understand? that doesn't make much sense you know. If he called me shorty, I'd call him stinky and leave it at that.
au contraire, mon petite ami means "on the contrary my little (female) friend" au contraire, ma petit ami means "on the contrary, my little (male) friend.

You can answer: "I prefer being shorty to being 'un schtroumpf'!"
"On the contrary, my little 'schtroumpf'..."
"Look! Here comes (the guy's name) le schtroumpf!"
Schtroumpf (to be pronounced "sh-troo-m-pf", see the german word 'Strumpf'=socks) is the name of a special species of little people that are blue-skinned and wear white hats and white pants. It's in a comic strip from Peyo. (some product pictures are available on amazon.com)

In French, when one calls another one "mon petit", it's at the same time nice and condescendent.
I think it sounds like what you're looking for.

"au contraire, mon petite ami" means "As opposed to, my little friend" and I guess it is an okay comeback... by the way "petite" is for female while "petit" is male.
