What is the best camera setting to take pictures at a concert? As far as ISO, action setting, flash? Most concerts have flashing lights and smoke effects, I know you can't remove the smoke effects but what are the best settings to get clearer pictures in that enviroment?

I have an HP Photosmart M417 digital for now but I'm getting a Sony MPEG4 Net Sharing Cam soon if that helps answer the question. Also is that Sony Net cam any good?

It would be best if you could use high ISO and avoid flash (even if not actually banned), since on-camera flash in dusty/smoke effect conditions is likely to result in orbs when particles close to the camera are illuminated.

You will probably also be too far away for flash to provide much illumination.

Action mode may need more light then you have, you'll have to compromise on both the ISO setting (noise level in picture), and getting to a a usable hand-held shutter speed, in order to avoid blasting uselessly with flash at too great a distance - standard camera flash is minimal at anything greater than "small group shot" distances.

And yes, watch out for camera bans, and if you want to risk sneak-shooting, then no-flash is essential!

Buy him number two with the 5x optical zoom. It has the longest zoom (most magnification) of the group you listed. Don't pay any attention to the number of mega pixels, once you pass 5 on a camera in this price range it doesn't make any difference. The trick is to set your camera (by way of the menu) to the maximum pixel setting to get the best quality that the camera is capable of producing. If you don't know what I mean, here is a simple explanation. Set your camera for the "fine" setting in the pixel area of the menu. Another way of knowing you did this right is to use the setting that gives you the "least" number of exposures for the memory card in the camera at the time of this setting. So if the settings are are say: 1. gives you 25 pictures, 2. gives you 50 pictures. 3 gives you 75 pictures. USE # 1 that gives you the lowest number of available pictures. Good Luck!

You will need a fast lens - f2.8 - and a high ISO (at least 1600). Flash will be useless. If your camera doesn't have these capabilities you may as well leave it at home.

Most concerts prohibit cameras and if your ticket says "NO CAMERAS" and they find yours it will be confiscated. Its unlikely you'll ever see it again.
