We are moving next week, and I would like to do something nice to introduce ourselves to our new neighbors. I'm NOT throwing a party or anything. I am going to be to busy unpacking. I just want to leave something nice on their doorsteps (dont say doggie-do please. HEHE!!)

I've heard of people doing something like a basket of muffins or whatever, with a note attached that says something along the line of "Hi, were you new neighbors. We have __ kids, a dog, and we are from ______" .

I dont have alot of money, and there are ALOT of neighbors. Any ideas?

Knock on the doors of the people on each side of you and the ones directly behind and across the street. Introduce yourself & tell them you hope to meet all your neighbors once the unpacking is over. Smile & speak to everyone who passes by, and expect that it will take a few weeks or months to meet all the neighbors.
A good conversation opener would be to ask the new neighbors what Halloween is going to be like - which you need to know!
Be careful about being so friendly with muffins & notes. Some people will take it as an invitation to become your new best friends, and you could regret it.

I've actually never heard of anyone just moving being the one to go around with the welcome basket. Usually your new neighbors do that. We have been in our new home almost 8 wks and believe me, with all the unpacking and re-organizing, meeting the neighbors has been the last thing I've had time for let alone bake for. My husband has been working on the yard and neighbors have been approaching him to introduce themselves already. We usually walk our neighborhoods and will this one as well so we will get a chance then to say hi as we see them.

similarly --

leave a note on their doors
asking them to come over in about 3 days - between
lets say 1 and 3 or 6 to 8

for brownies and coffee and for everyone to meet each other.
You are probably screaming - the house wont be ready!

OF course. It is perfect. Right after you move is the perfect time to have people in, because they will all understand that
that the house can't be perfect and beautiful yet.

Hey that is so thoughtful of you!

I have the custom of doing the reverse. Whenever someone new moves into my neighborhood, I introduce myself, drop off some baked goods and let them know if they need anything or want info about the area, etc., to please ask.

In your case, I don't feel you should do the gift giving. I would just be friendly, introduce yourself, etc. and hope to make some new friends.

Most people keep to theirselves & don't want to be involved w/ their neighbors. A note is tacky. You should approach them in person when you see them outside. Introduce yourself & ask if they have kids or pets. Don't go door to door. You'll eventually run into them outdoors.

Just go and knock on the door(s) of the neighbor who lives next door, and or right across the street, and introduce yourself. Make sure you have your signigicant other in tow.

Yes, leaving something like cookies or brownies you baked is original and a great idea, along with a note.

To be honest, the muffins and/or note would creep me out. It sounds like a Stepford wife.

YOUR IDEA IS GREAT, BUT I DONT KNOW ABOUT JUST "LEAVING" IT ON THEIR PORCH. IF I FOUND SOMETHING LIKE THIS ON MY PORCH, I WOULD NOT EAT IT BECAUSE IT COULD BE FROM ANYBODY. AN ENEMY OR ANYONE. SOO, I SAY, MAKE THE BASKETS BUT DELIVER IT TO THEM AND INTRODUCE YOURSELF TO THEM PERSONALLY.
