The older type that has his whole identity based on power/being macho/ego? They particuarly have a hard time working with a young woman being in charge. Having a meeting, going through procedures etc. are extremly difficult and frustrating because they feel that they have to show some sort of power by disputing, giving invaluable feedback and throw everything off only because they need to feel that they matter and have something better to say. A meeting that shouldn't take more than 45-mins has to be extended to 2 hours for no good reason. They are also problomatic when dealing with other male employees who do not come from the same "military-run" culture. I'm more concerned about how to deal with them as a woman? Do you give them the floor and make them feel "manly" and in charge so that they can feel sufficient? Do you put them in place and remind them that they are not running the show? Do you just strategically exclude them from meetings etc? HELP

The person is actually valuable to business as long as he's not feeling insecure and not taken over by his power issues. My job environment is very friendly, non-military, non-status--everybody's feedback matters kind of deal. His behavior just throws everything off.

He could be a total jerk or ego maniac, or maybe he's just insecure. Maybe he doesn't know what his role is. You could talk to him and clearly define what his role is, and who is in charge, and that if he isn't happy with that role, he's free to move on.
After spending 20 years in the military, much of spent being in charge of others and responsible for the actions of others, it's a nice break to be in a non leadership position.

You and only you are the boss. Remember that. If your section/office begins to fail at a task, your boss will not look to those men asking them why something was wrong, they come to you.
Provide councelling sessions to these guys. Be upfront with the issues you have with them and dont beat around the bush with your conserns. Address their disruptiveness and help them come to a solution on how to solve it. When asking questions of them, stay away from 'yes' and 'no' answers. Force them to eleberate on the problem and expand on it.
If you dont have much experience providing feedback like this to your employees, try writting out an outline of the topics you want to cover. I assume you know them pretty well since they work for you, you can probably almost guess how they are going to respond, so prepair your arguments on your points prior to them coming in the door.
Good luck

OK, you will probably not like this answer but here we go anyway. You're the BOSS take charge, if these/this man is ex military (Which from reading your post and it being posted in Military section I assume he is), then he will respect that. There are plenty of women in leadership roles within the armed forces so it's not like he hasn't had a female boss before, I get the impression he wants you to be in charge not lead from the rear.
Just my opinion.

Have a discussion with him so that you may clear the air about what issues he may have no matter how irrelevent you think they may be, just let him express them. Then give him your opinion of the situation. It would be good to have a third party who is senior to both of you perhaps just so they could keep order to the discussion and make sure it does not last longer than needed and you do not run around in circles.
Report him if he is unprofessional and keep logs of all the times he is out of line.
Private work environments may be easier than government work environments, so that is also a factor in how to deal with it. Above all, follow your facilities policies when dealing with confrontation at work.

first of all i'm a triple Sagittarius (triple meaning my sunlight, moon and ASC are in that sign) i'm an extremely truthful individual, I dont abuse have confidence until its serious. Myths: hearth signs and warning signs are conventional for their explosive temperaments, for me thats no longer genuine. All hearth signs and warning signs are egocentric..no longer genuine from me, working example I gave my sister $3 hundred and had $20 leftover and she or he talked approximately as me egocentric because of the fact i mandatory the $20 for issues and in simple terms did no longer supply over to her because of the fact she's like that. She's a Scorpio sunlight, Aries Moon and Leo starting to be, btw. i'm no longer that dramatic, the two. Or a threat-taker. yet i'm very enthusiastic approximately almost each thing from my ideals to my companion and young ones. common i think of it varies from hearth sign to fire sign what have been like truly.

Just tell them I have given you an order, if you do not want to do it punch out and go home, that is what I do with my employees. Of course once in a while I will moon them.
