We have a 1 year old staff female. We fed her dry puppy food for a couple of months, but now she has whatever we have ,which i feel is better for her. Lots of veg and pasta and good quality meat. We feed her twice a day which seems to suit her fine. her bowels are fine her coat is shiny and shes really healthy. We have a box of dry dogfood for her if what we have is not suitable but she doesnt really like it much. Who would after eating real food?

Hope you don't plan to feed your dog tins!! LOL

You need to know the weight of your dog. Then look on the dry food packaging and it tells you how much food to feed each day. Its preferable to feed a dog twice a day. In the morning and again in the evening.... So once you know the total weight of food to feed your dog split it into two lots. Give one lot in the morning after your walk. Then the remainder after the evening walk.

I read that if you leave food down all the time you can make the dog picky and fussy. You also then don't know how much they have eaten. Dog's dont need access to food 24-7. They need clean fresh water 24-7 but not food as well!

If you are feeding a complete dry food, then you do not need to feed anything thing else or extras. You don't need tinned food as well. So I am not sure what your question is? If you choose tinned food, you can give that twice a day with mixer, instead of the complete dry food. But you don't need to be giving both. You can give a few "treats" per day, biscuits, or chews etc.

Hi , I have a big boned long hair german shepherd, she is correct weight as I have been told by the vets every year since weve had her. She has 1 mug of complete and 1/2 a tin of meat 9am and 5pm, she has a bowl of milk, and any odd scraps thrown in with her tea. I no it doesnt sound much, but she is spot on weight wise, not skinny at all. Id guess at 3/4 mug complete and half tin, twice a day, see how she goes.

I've got 2 staffs, ***** and dog. I don't feed them tins as i find dry complete dog food much better for them, it's well balanced. You can mix bits in to it (scraps). I have a pint and a half jug which i fill for each of them once a day and it does them fine. They eat what they want and go back for little bits throughout the day then. I feed them wagg for working dogs as with their high energy levels they need that little bit extra

different food types/manufacturers have different nutritional contents so it is impossible to offer generic advice. The manufacturer should be able to advise. It will also depend on your dog's weight. Personally, I'm not a fan of tinned food. Dry, complete foods are much better nutritionally for dogs. I buy from Trophy (www.trophypetfoods.com) and each feed sack gives you a detailed guide on how much to feed your dog depending on weight.

Probably no more then one, tin food is 80% water so not really that good for her, the most important thing is a good quality complete dry food

What do you mean tins? Does this mean the amount of food?

If it's the food amount:
The amount of food depends on the weight of your dog and this will change of course as your dog grows.

Look on the dog food to see what the recommended amount is for his size or consult your vet.

one in the morning and one at evening but as you are using dry food i'd mix half in morning and the other half tin in eve.really you should be using one or the other but dry food would be a bit boring,id be really p'd off with just dry food and wild dogs dont eat it do they!!

Check out the link in the source... it breaks down how much to feed your dog dependent on weight, age and daily activities.

In a nutshell... calculate your dog's Resting Energy Requirements (RER)... then insert it in this equation:

RER in kcal/day = 30(body weight in kilograms) + 70
