My puppy is a four month old Shih Tzu. I used Advantage on him on top of flea shampoo every other week. He still have fleas. Some people suggested flea spray to treat the house. What can I use that is safe in case he licks at the treated area?

None without talking to your vet first.
If you already use Advantage, then you need to treat the house. DIY flea sprays and bombs are for the most part, ineffective. Call in a professional exterminator.

If you're using the Advantage right after the flea shampoo, the Advantage will NOT work!
Bathing washes off the natural oils of skin. Advantage needs to spread through the skin via the skin's oils.
So, stop bathing before applying the Advantage! Flea shampoos also do not work, believe me. Make sure you get the Advantage on the dog's skin, not his fur.
When people tell you to get a spray, they mean just to go round the house - NOT to be applied to the dog. You can't get the same spray for the house and the dog. Whatever you get, read the instructions carefully!
Indorex, Acclaim, Staykil and Skoosh are all good housesprays. Lose the flea shampoo.

MOST OVER THE COUNTER FLEA STUFF DOESN'T WORK UNLESS YOU COMPLETELY SUBMERGE YOUR HOUSE & PET AT THE SAME TIME AND VERY THOUROUGHLY.
I WAS SKPETICAL AT FIRST. BUT HOT SHOT (YES, THE ROACH KILLER SPRAY) SELLS A HOME/PET FLEA KILLER. THE SPRAY IS SAFE TO SPRAY ON YOUR ANIMAL INBETWEEN TREATMENTS (ANVANTAGE) AND SAFE TO SPRAY AROUND YOUR HOME. AND ACTUALLY DOESN'T SMELL BAD.
I SUGGEST FLEA POWDER IN CREVESTS OF CARPET NEAR MEETING THE WALL. AND UNDER FURNITURE AND HIDDEN PLACES. IF YOU HAVE CHILDREN, BE CAFEFUL.
BUT ANYWHO.
HOT SHOT FLEA AND ROOM KILLER. ITS NEAR THE ROACH/MICE BAIT STUFF.
WORKS WONDERS. YOUR DOG WILL FREAK OUT BUT WILL EVENTUALLY GET USE TO THE ROUTINE. :)
