I really hate to tell you this, you don't actually get to 'own' anything til you turn 18. What are you doing to have stuff taken away at your age, you are not a baby, so don't act like one!

A minor cannot enter into a contract. If a 16 year old enters into a contract without letting the vendor know they are under age, the contract can be called null. If the parent finds out, they can force the child to return the cell phone and can force the vendor to return funds paid. The vendor cannot sue the child or parent in most cases.

There can be some exceptions if the minor committed fraud in order to get the cell phone (ie fake id and stated over 18).

A 16 year old is still a minor and parents are responsible. What reason are the parents giving for not wanting 16 year old to have a cell phone?

The 16 year old still lives in the house provided by the parents, they have that right!

Your only 16, and still under the control of your parents. Sit down, and talk with them. Since you're paying for it yourself, they should allow you to keep it. Just remember, they are your parents, and you still live at home.

Despite what some people are saying you can own property under 18, like say said a purse got stolen, a 16 year old can go to the police and report that as their property stolen

Until you are 18 years of age, you do not own any property. Anything you have, regardless of who paid for it, belongs to and is the responsibility of the parents.

It is her property *and* her parents can take it away from her if she's misusing it or if it's interfering in her life in some way. Are you going to call the police and report your parents for theft? What if your parents rescind their permission for you to work? (Or whomever)

As long as you are a minor, parents will and do have control over your stuff. Silly about a cell phone, but yes, they can take it if they want. Must have their reasons...

Yes your parents can take it away from you unless of course you want to live on the street or pay your parents lots of rent!
