You don't get paid to be a volunteer what you do do is locate sponsors. Your sponsor will offer you say 10$ a month for 1 year, you would want as many as possible of course. You would also approach your church, bible groups, small business, family members and friends. Most organizations do not pay for you to help buy doing so they would be giving you the money and it would not be going to the people who need it the most. I know this because I am a humanitarian in Romania and even though my husband has a job here most everyone I know is living off what their sponsors send them. In return you send out updates, photos, I have a myspace page set up to keep those of donate and help me out updated on what their money is helping me to acompolish. It gives people who want to help an opportunity to do so without going to Africa or Romania. It also helps them to see what you are doing and ask questions and things like that. It really makes them feel as if they are doing something worthwhile as well. It is easy to write a check.. But somehow this makes it personal. Good luck. Also if your not set on a location email me and consider Romania. Our Children's hosptal.....we just need more than we can give right now.

You cannot get paid if you are volunteering. Some organizations will pay to fly you over and your room and board will be included. By the way, $225 will go a LONG way in Africa. Most familes there do not even make that in one year!

Um you don't get paid to volunteer... and if you want to go to a third world country, I would expect a little more than $225 a month... people are leaving countries where they make that money to come to the US to make that and more in a week... Do you know how many shots you will have to get to go to africa...

When you get paid it is not volunteering it is a job. I don't think the $225 is really a payment but the cost of living expences.

I don't really have an answer for you, but I can say this. What can you offer, personally, that no one in Africa can do already? Why would someone pay to send you to do something someone else who is already there can do? Unless you have something important to teach, or some knowledge to share, you would be of little help.

How can you be paid and be a volunteer? If you are paid, then you are technically an employee.
