In Catholicism, there is still a lot of debate as to the true definition and application of the term sin. A common belief is that it is the willful act of turning your back on God's will.
However, if you don't perceive your actions to be against God's will, you are not willfully turning your back on God's will, and therefore may not be sin as is defined. Conversely, if you feel what you are doing is against God's will, even though it is never explicitly stated in the Bible, then you are turning your back on God and sinning.
Applying this view to Homosexuality:
If those partaking in said activity do so believing they are not sinning, then they are not sinning. But I think it mentions it as a sin somewhere in the Bible, so it may in fact be called a sin.
I personally, am fine with it. But note that I am fairly knowledgeable of Catholicism, but not a practicing Catholic.

But I was once told it's fine to be homosexual, just don't act on it. I just see their definition of sin as negating that principle.

EDIT: From Margret's catechism link
"Homosexuality refers to relations between men or between women who experience an exclusive or predominant sexual attraction toward persons of the same sex."

...To me that sounds like it's okay if it's only sometimes, or you are Bi-sexual but predominantly Heterosexual. Hahaha!

The Bible says that homosexual acts are a sin. Catholic teaching upholds this -- homosexual acts are sins.

Catholic teaching states that same-sex attraction is not a sin. One can't help one's attractions, really, as long as a person isn't purposefully fueling a desire to do something that is wrong (such as a pedophile looking at child pornography).

I cannot tell you how many Catholics believe that homosexual actions are a sin or how many Catholics might believe same-sex attraction is a sin. I don't think I've seen any reasonable statistics on either score, and I know Catholics who take positions on either side of each question.

Please see the first link below to a section of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, which deals with the 6th commandment. In section 2357 homosexuality is dealt with, and the footnotes take you to some places in the Bible.
This might help you to understand the overall belief structure within which homosexuality is a part and why it is considered sinful.
Please see the second link for opinions about homosexuals, with results broken down, in part, by religious identity.

The modern word Homosexual is not used in the Bible but there are references to sodomy and sexual perversity in the Catholic bible.
It is not just the fact that Homosexuality is wrong from the Christian standpoint in respect of the Bible,
it is wrong from the moral standpoint as well,we only have to look at the behavior of homosexuals in these times to see how it has degenerated down the road of immorality, an added element of perversity has marked it out as more of a social evil than ever before.
Blatent homosexuals now prance up and down the major roads and highways of Europe and America dressed in paraphanalia that mocks all that decent people hold dear.
We have seen Nazi type dress and symbols, males and females dressed as clerics and Nuns, some even dress as school children and when normal people complain they are rediculed and told to be tolerant, the jibe is, we homosexuals are in your face so tough!
What we see then is not just a movement looking for some kind of respectability in society, but a movement hell bent on anarchy at any price.
We are bombarded with media coverage and force- fed the lie that this is freedom of love and expression, that it is on a par with the normal union of male and female which brought them into the world in the first place.
The great champion of homosexuality is of course Atheism which by it`s dysfuctional and rebellious nature makes great effort to pull God and Christianity down yet all the while seeks it`s authentication by preposing that there is no God at all.
Therefore it is remarkably illogical in it`s fabric and illogical in it`s claims and is the antithesis of all that is held pure and good by Christianity, and in turn the very reason why both are mortal enemies.
The Christian who accepts homosexuality and atheism as legitamite foundations has in fact compromised with the spirit of this world whom Christ has condemned and overcome

Catholic Bible? there is only one bible.....

Cathloics do believe its a sin....its almost offensive when someone claims they are a religion and then spout doctrine inconsistent with that faith. like the girl below me. catholics take a 'don't ask don't tell' sort of approach on homosexuality. being homosexual is not a sin....acting on it, is. kind of silly, but thats what they say.

just like wanting to have sex before marriage is not a sin, but having sex before marriage is.

i'm still confused by the term 'catholic bible.' there is no such thing. there is one bible. and all christian faiths use it. some (like mormons) add their own book to the mix...but catholic's don't.

Chastity and homosexuality (from the Catechism of the Catholic Church):

CCC 2357 - Homosexuality refers to relations between men or between women who experience an exclusive or predominant sexual attraction toward persons of the same sex. It has taken a great variety of forms through the centuries and in different cultures. Its psychological genesis remains largely unexplained. Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity, tradition has always declared that "homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered." They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.

CCC 2358 - The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes for most of them a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. These persons are called to fulfill God's will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord's Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition.

CCC 2359 - Homosexual persons are called to chastity. By the virtues of self-mastery that teach them inner freedom, at times by the support of disinterested friendship, by prayer and sacramental grace, they can and should gradually and resolutely approach Christian perfection.

Leviticus 18:22 says:

“ And with a man you shall not lie with as a man lies with a woman; it is an abomination. ”

and Leviticus 20:13 states:

“ If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads. "

Well, I'm a Catholic/ Christian, and I do not recall seeing anywhere in the Bible that homosexuality is a sin.
Even if it is, it will be forgiven.
I don't believe it's a sin though.

It is not a sin to be gay (attracted to members of your gender).

It is a sin to have sex outside of marriage, regardless if you are having sex with someone of your own gender or a different gender.
