Tell her that it is important to you. My son was 15 when he got braces put on his teeth. He needed them because his teeth needed straightening and because of his jaw alignment. The main thing the braces did besides straightening his teeth was to give him a lot more self confidence. He felt so much better about himself. He still thinks that getting his jaw into proper alignment improved his looks. I know that he sure smiled a lot more after braces.
If money is an issue, maybe you could offer to get a job to help pay for the braces. Offering to help pay for them would show your mom that you are serious about wanting them

I got my braces on at 16, and they were off in time for my prom:)!
If it's really important to you just tell your mom how you feel, i'm sure if she can afford it she'll understand. Plus I think your mom can claim the braces on her income taxes, so maybe at the end of the year she'll even get some money back from the government. Look into it more, your dentist can book you a consulation with an orthodontist (which is usually free) and he can explain everything to you and your mom.
Good Luck:)

The best advice I can give as the wise old man is:
Talk your mom into getting an evaluation from 2 specialist in orthodontics. If a second opinion also suggest that braces are needed , well...that maybe enough to convince your mother to help you have whatever needs to be done....done.
Ask the dentist if you are having work done over a period of time to put you on the " pay as you go " pay plan.
Good Luck !!

Demonstrate in your daily life that you are a responsible person who can take care of the extremely rigorous self-care regimen. You can do this by taking scrupulous care of your self, your room, your schoolwork and by helping cheerfully and consistently in your home. You can also get a part-time job and offer to pay for a portion. Talk to your dentist and have her/him discuss the situation with your parents.
Your parents may not be able to afford braces, or they may feel that saving for your college education is more important than your appearance. It does not hurt your health to have crooked teeth. Most workplaces have cut back on health insurance benefits, so it is likely not something covered. Frankly, you can get braces at any age- a friend of mine is in her forties and in braces now. Some orthodontists have payment plans, which makes it easier.
Good luck.

Well, first come up with the money to do it. That may be what the problem is. Your family may not be able to afford it. Also, your mother might see your teeth and not see a big reason to get braces. They may look fine enough to her. If there is a dire need to do it then the dentist would explain that to her.

Your dentist should speak with your mother. But keep in mind that it could be for financial reasons as braces are very expensive. Believe me, you aren't missing out. My teeth are straight but it wasn't fun wearing them. You'd have them on for at least 2 years. You'd have to see the dentist fairly often, I think it's every 3 months for tightening.
You're never too old for braces. Tom Cruise had braces when he was an adult.

Your mom may not have the dollars to spend on something that isn't that bad. Braces are not cheap and she will have to get you to regular (several times a month) dentist visits to have them tightened for probably a couple of years. She may not have the money or the time for all the visits, but ask and if the answer is no, then wait until you are adult and get them on your own dime. Plenty of adults are getting them.

If they are bad enough for braces then she doesn't need convincing she just needs the money... Wouldn't your dentist do the talking anyway?

First of all, you are never too old for braces. Like mentioned above, ask the dentist to talk to your parents. Maybe they are afraid that they cannot afford them.

Your mom might love to get your braces, but she might not have the money to do so. Not all Dental insurance covers orthodontia. If your teeth are okay, you can always get them later in life. or offer to pay for them yourself if funds are the case!! Good luck!
