Well, if Heaven and/or Hell, is where a soul sits stagnant, then I can only pray that there is neither one.....and that there is no life, after death....
I just don't believe in your "adaptation" of Heaven or Hell. You do not believe that there is a Lord and Creator? I do...and there will be a job waiting for me also, no matter which afterlife I end up traveling to....
Have a great day......

The Bible tells us there will be a resurrection although in death itself there is nothing. Jesus compared it to sleep. Eccles. 9:5, 10 shows in death, there is no activity, no mental processes. Ezek. 18:4 shows the soul dies.
So how could one feel pleasure or pain?
Acts 24:15 shows there will be a resurrection of righteous and unrighteous to earth. What does this mean? No matter what you've done, you come back? No. This is provision for those not declared righteous because they never had the chance to learn the truth about God. It would be unjust for those dying as children or those living on some island far from others.

Since I believe the Bible is God's Word and I believe the things Jesus taught as recorded in the Bible, I believe there is a heaven and a hell, but I do not believe those winding up in each place will sit stagnant 'for the rest of time.'
Heaven is going to be so exciting with things the human mind cannot even imagine, not to mention being in the presence of Alnighty God and His Son, Jesus, who died for this ole wretched sinner.
BTW in eternity there is no 'rest of time' for there is no time.

Hell means the grave according to the Bible. The original word in Hebrew is Sheol which means "hades or world of the dead (as if a subterranean retreat) Including. its accessories and inmates:-grave, hell, pit." From "Strong's Exhaustive concordance"
Heaven means the sky or a place where celestial body's reside. The Hebrew word used in the Bible is Shameh which means " from an unused root meaning to be lofty; the sky (as aloft; the dual perh. alluding to the visible arch in which the clouds move, as well as to the higher ether where the celestial bodies revolve):- air astrologer, heaven (-s)" From "Strong's Exhaustive concordance"
So by the terms used in the Bible these things do exist. The grave and the sky are real. However, in the way that most people believe in heaven and hell, I would have to say NO, they do not exist. The Bible teaches of destruction, not everlasting torment for the wicked. Revelation 20:9-10 says:
:They marched across the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of God's people, the city he loves. But fire came down from heaven and DEVOURED them. And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever."
Note the people who marched to attack the city God loves will be devoured.... not tortured eternally. However Satan will be. Also Revelation 20:15 "Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the SECOND DEATH. ( note this does not say the eternal torment, it says second death). If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire."
People who have no desire to know God will be destroyed, not punished for eternity.
Eternal life: Revelations 21:1-4 " Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth. for the first haven and the first earth had passed away. and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying. "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain for the old order of things has passed away."
So yes! There will be eternal life for those who love God! It won't be sitting around and being stagnant. There will be plenty to do if we want to. I believe we will be able to explore worlds that are currently unavailable to us due to our sin and the separation it has caused us with other universes. The Bible even shows that a little child will lead a lion. no animals will harm us. We can enjoy nature the way God intended to begin with! There is infinite knowledge out there to be learned and we will have all the time we need to learn it. I personally am looking forward to it.

There is life after death but at first after you die, you either go to heaven or hell. Eventually when Jesus returns, those who were already in heaven will be in the New Heaven or Earth that God creates and those who are alive when Jesus returns will be judged then.

Several years back the prestigious Duke University actually proved that a form of energy leaves the body at the time of death. This energy even has a minute weight which measured as being lost at the moment of death. Science tells us that energy doesn't just disappear, it takes a different form as it is expended but it never just disappears into nothingness.
Where our energy goes upon death, I can't answer...but that it continues to exist seems absolutely logical and makes utter sense to me. Maybe it isn't such a factual jump to believe we join with the supreme form of energy? I don't see science and religion as that opposed to each other about this. It seems intelligent to me to assume ...there is something after death.
The rest of my opinion on this.. is mine alone:)

In the book of Acts: 7th chapter when Stephen was being stoned he looked up and saw Jesus and called upon him to receive his spirit. So I'm thinking to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.

well listen to this:for god so loved the world that he gave his one and only son for who ever believed in him shall not perish but have eternal life(heaven). during life you decide wiether you confess your sins or not. you live with god in your heart believing in him and the holly spirit or not. if shall not follow god's comandments and read john:15-17 and make a decision to confess or not.if you do like i said above youwill have eternal life in heaven with no pain a perfect body and able to speak to god face to face.but if you don't you burn in hell.in the fire that awaits you.with the devil happy with joy watching you.
