I think this rifle is a standard carbine--it has an octagonal barrel, the caliber is .38-55, serial number 69155, and it is in very good condition. According to one online source it was manufactured in 1896. My great-grandfather bought it around 1900 and it's spent most of the last 5 decades in closets.

Thanks very much for any information--Denny

It value would have to be judged from a collector's standpoint, because there is no longer ammo for it. Depending on condition it could bring anywhere from $400- over $1000+. Like I said, it all depend on how much a collector is willing to pay for it. If you see it to an antique arms place, they will try and get it off you dirt cheap and sell it for multiple times what they paid for it.

If it's in good shape it could potentially be worth thousands.

Take a look here(bottom of page) for what may be similar models: http://www.rarewinchesters.com/forsale/index.shtml
