Do they need them?

I am enclosing a link to give you some information about angels and I think you will find it interesting as it gives the bible verses that gives information about them.

I am also pasting a couple of paragraphs to the link below, angels are often used as "messengers" and that is what their name means.

Notice that Daniel's statement does more than tell us that there are many angels. It also indicates that angels minister to God. They are his servants. In harmony with this, the psalmist sang: "Bless Jehovah, O you angels of his, mighty in power, carrying out his word, by listening to the voice of his word. Bless Jehovah, all you armies of his, you ministers of his, doing his will."—Psalm 103:20, 21.

The Bible also explains that angels did not begin their lives as humans on earth. Jehovah created angels in heaven even before he created the earth. When God 'founded the earth, all the angelic sons of God shouted in applause.'—Job 38:4-7.

Angels are spirit creatures—invisible, powerful, intelligent. In the Bible, the Hebrew word mal·´akh' and the Greek term ag'ge·los are translated "angel" when a spirit creature is indicated. These words occur nearly 400 times in the Bible. Both have the same meaning, that is, "messenger."

Perhaps the wings are related to the nature of their service to God as they carry out many issues of messaging in the bible as these verses show in the link attached. If time were permissable I would research more for information about your question but I hope that this helps or is at least interesting to you. I hope you enjoy reading it.

Nowhere in the Bible will you find a passage saying angels had wings. Thing is people try to bring down to Earth what they don't understand, they make concrete that which is abstract, etc. Think of the times of the Bible and some of the years to come. What creature could ascend and descend from the heavens? I bet you're saying "birds!" and you would be right my friend. So those strange people coming from and going into the skies were added wings. This is a particular vision of artists and most accepted it since it was a way to make angels manageable, feasible, comprehensible.
As far as I know they didn't have wings but were evolved beings coming from spaceships checking and advising primitive humans who would worship anything that may seem superior to them.
Who knows, right?

I think is because of the description of the Seraphs (a kind of angels) made in Isaiah 6:1–3 (NIV):

In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a throne, high and exalted, and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him were seraphs, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. And they were calling to one another:
"Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty;
the whole earth is full of his glory."
---------
However, In the other parts of the bible the angels are described as normal persons, sometimes wearing white and shining robes. (like in Matthew 28:2-3)

And some of they actually look as normal people, that's why the Bible tell in Hebrews 13:2 "Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it"

Sorry if I misspell some words, I'm still leargin english.
Greetings.

Angels certainly can take on many forms. For instance, in Genesis 18, Abraham sees three men coming towards him, one was the pre-incarnate Christ, an the other two were angels in the form of men (See Gen. 19:1.).
On the other hand, in Ezekiel 1 we see a vivid picture of the four living beings, identified as cherubim (the second highest order of angels). They have among other things several sets of wings each, covering their bodies and outstretched to touch the adjacent cherubim's wings. (See Ez. 1:6,9.) This picture is consistent with what John saw in Revelation 4.

Angels do not need wings as such but this probably comes from the fact that on the cover of the `Ark of the Covenant there were two Cherubs(angels) depicted with folded wings.

The Bible doesn't say that angels have wings. It's thought that this idea came from the artists of the Renaissance, who used to draw angels having wings. If you then ask me "why did they draw them with wings?" i would answer you that i suppose it was because birds have wings, they fly because of them and they link the idea of angels as servants of god -with missions taking place on the earth- and God itself. No need to mention that God was over the sky so they needed wings to get there.

No, they didn't know jetpacks :P.

See ya!

PS: The guy that answered you after me is wrong, that passage is about seraphins. By the way, i have learned that seraphins are mentioned on the bible -only in that passage. I thought it didn't say a thing about them.

Isaiah had a vision of heaven and recorded his observations.
Isaiah 6:2 "Angels were standing above him. Each had six wings: With two they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they flew."
There are other renderings of this verse and in one modern translation angels/seraphim are rendered "winged ones".
