My daily routine is washing in the morning and the evening with a clean and clear face wash. I get out of the shower and my face feels great a whole lot better when I used a dial anti bacterial soap 2 weeks ago on it. But around my chin area and under my mouth is flacky skin. Now, I been taking a scrub pad and smoothly going over just my chin area to try to get the the dry skin off. For the last 2 weeks , my chin area and under my mouth has been real red and dry. It has to be either me scrubbing it to much or could it be the type of lotion I'm using. See, I tried to put some Neutrogena oil free lotion on my face and I cannot tell if the reddness is coming from the lotion or the scrub pad. The lotion is for sensitive skin and has no fragrance or alchaoul in it.

Sometimes people mistake dry skin for another skin pathology. Dry skin, particularly on the face, should not be diifcult to remove. You don't need harsh abrasive devices like a scrub brush or a pad to remove it. Most gentle exfolliants will remove it. If the skin still feels dry under the chin, it's likely it may be eczema or a rash. Do not continue to scrub it as it will make it worse. Instead, do the opposite and apply a gentle face moisturizer. Do not physically rub or antagonize it. I doubt it's an allergic reaction caused by the lotion because you would likely see similar results on other areas of the face to which you applied the lotion on(I doubt you just put the face lotion only on the chin area right?) I would buy some hydrocortisone cream and apply it to the area and see if it improves. Get the generic brand as it will be the cheapest and look for the highest strength. If the redness and dryness doesn't go away after a week, I would make an appointment to see primary care physician. He or she will most likely be able to diagnose and treat it with something more powerful. If it persists, you should consult a dermatologist or have your PCP refer to one. Good Luck

First...no more scrubbing..it's iritating already easily irritated skin....
...second, only wash your face once a day until the dryness clears, and use a very mild facial cleaser...no soap. Unless you wear make-up, then get a make-up remover and gently tissue off. Your skin's natural oils have been stripped away and your skin needs time to correct the imbalance....but at the same time you need to clean it so the key is moderation and gentleness...

Moisturizers don't add moisture, they seal it in so apply your moisturizer while your face is still slighty damp....and always pat almost dry...don't rub or scrub. use a moisturizer that is perfume/oil/alchohol free, and one that won't clog pores.....and give it time as there's no quick fix...Good Luck.

be gentle with the skin, do not scrub it, scrubbing the skin can cause damage. maybe you are using skin care product that is not suitable for your skin type. make sure that you use an all natural skin care product so that there will be no damage done to the skin.

there are many things simple things to do to have clear and healthy skin, one is to drink plenty of water, this can keep the skin hydrated, likewise, eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. healthy lifestyle and healthy diet can improve the appearance of the skin.

Doctor of Common Sense was right. If the cortisone cream works for you, then you could have dermatitis. But, you don't want to use a cortisone cream for an extended period of time because it can age your skin prematurely. Dermatitis can't be cured, but it can be managed. See your doctor, mine prescribed me a non-steroid cream Eladil and ketoconazil and now I have no flare-ups with redness or flaking at all. Good luck. 2D
