I got a new job at a home care place and they are supposed to be Christian. It's a live in position and they told me to make myself at home. So I decorated my room with things I like. And my boss got upset because I had a couple of pics of me and my boyfriend and actually said they were pornographic and suggestive! But they weren't. One of the pictures was at a Christmas party and he has his hand on my backside and the other one was taken at the beach with us in our swimsuits. What was so pornographic about that? And she said the same thing about my romance novel. I know some romance novels have suggestive pics on the covers but this one didn't. I mean do all Christians have problems with things like this and if you think it's a problem what's the big deal?

No. It's just like in any other group of people. It's the uppity ones who get noticed because they are the ones who make waves. When everything flows together well, nobody even knows that your there. Those who are walking in the spirit, don't try to make you feel guilty.

Go ahead and take the pictures down. It's a small price to pay for peace, and keep your book under your pillow. Some people see sin everywhere they look, and it causes them to sin. (Being judgmental is a sin.) You just do what you can to help them walk uprightly.

The thing that you need to understand here is that Jesus don't play that. If you don't mind, I'd like to quote you something out of the Bible to show you where Jesus is really coming from. There is a difference between the two attitudes. You've probably heard it before. It's found in John chapter 8:

The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group and said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?”

They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him. But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger.

When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.” Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.

At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?”

“No one, sir,” she said.

“Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.”

Christians are supposed to do things with all humility. It is a command in making over our personality.

Now I am going to say something sounding self-serving but not. I believe based on the Bible, I am living as a true Christian (trying). All my beliefs are based on the Bible standards and avoid anything of pagan origin as much as possible. Having said that:

Have you noticed whenever you see businesses or people advertising "CHRISTIAN" they are the most crooked? If there is one thing you can do to avoid being stolen from or otherwise cheated, it is to avoid any business with Christian in the name or title.

Another thing that too many people fall victim to is the need to feel superior to someone else. That is why the Bible tells us to avoid pride. It is also why so many terrible acts are done by otherwise normal, even likable people. It begins with looking down their nose at another person. They feel they are better and others are below them. Those are no better than dogs so anything done to them is not a concern.

It is important to know not all are True Christians. Although some fall victim to this pride, most True Christians have a humble spirit and attitude.

It seems like your photos were not very appropriate for a Christian living situation. Perhaps your boss thought they might offend others. It seems like the word "pornographic" was pretty strong. She could have talked to you in a much more sensitive and understanding way. But you need to understand that being a Christian doesn't make someone perfect. I wish it did! We all have faults. If you are going to work in a place which requires Christian values, you may need to make some adjustments. Maybe you could ask your boss to explain her beliefs and requirements to you in a kind way so that you could understand. I hope she is mature enough to do that! If she isn't, please don't judge all Christians by one woman.

Obviously, you placed YOUR "needs" above those of your employer. By your "question", it seems that you continue to feel that you are "in the right" and that your employer is "wrong".

One thing that's also obvious is that you continue to paint your employer as Christian, yet you make NO effort to identify yourself as such (which I suspect is more likely "the problem" here).

If you have problems working for, with, or around Christians, and feel no need to be sensitive to the feelings of other people, then WHY did you take the "new job" at all?

You seem to be looking for a fight...or at the very least, to rationalize your lack of sensitivity and maturity.

That's the "big deal".

My acquaintances are purely uninterested in being harangued by making use of people attempting to transform them, and each now and then they retaliate in form. The born-back extremely-conservative varieties are actually not purely persistent yet in addition oftentimes insulting, demeaning, or perhaps threatening and refuse to contemplate that different perception structures may be valid. and that's ok -- their faith teaches that no longer something is valid. regardless of the undeniable fact that, while they gained't supply it a relax or comprehend others or exercising person-friendly decency and manners, it relatively is a concern, and a large number of of the athiests and deists i be attentive to contain plenty greater well mannered to the Christians than the Christians are to them. I ensue to be a member of the United Methodist Church, and could in no way evaluate doing what some others who declare Christianity as their very very own unique province of "correctness" do -- some are downright un-Christian of their habit, and while they adventure some retaliation they're many times astonished and might get self-righteous or perhaps propose-lively. of course those processes do no longer artwork, so why no longer attempt something else?!?

No, we're not all that way.

Some fundamentalist Christians are very uptight when it comes to things that could possibly be sexually suggestive. Jesus says in The Bible that if one of our hands causes us to sin, we should cut it off. That's metaphor, of course, but it basically means that if there is anything that could cause us to sin we should get away from us by any means necessary. They probably feel that your pictures and romance novels, as innocent as they may seem to you, might be a gateway to sin.

If I were you, I'd set some ground rules about what is your private space. And as you are living in their home, you should show respect equally.

Sounds like you have gotten yourself mixed up with some fanatics. Its your room they shouldnt have any say what you have or dont have in it however they are your bosses and based on what you have or dont have in your room they may question your belief system and therefore your use as their employee. Fanatics usually dont want to be around anyone who believes anything different from what they believe - that is how they keep the illusion of what they believe the truth to be going. You may want to change what is in your room to keep your job or you may want to start looking for a new job soon because trust me they will come up with a reason as to why you are not what they were looking for.

Amber (and John),
I am a bit of a Fundamental Christian but I have no problem with what you described at all. I would probably ask that you not show your bathing suit off to the older residents but that would actually be YOUR Business in my opinion. I love the LORD with all of my heart but I do not PUSH others to believe as I do just because "I can" that does nothing but push people away from HIM. Have a wonderful weekend.
Thank YOU,
Eds

I have no problem with any of the things you have mentioned. You sound normal and healthy to me. Maybe some old fuddy duddies would take offence at romance novels and bathing suits. Stick your stuff in a drawer and look at the pictures and read your book when prying eyes are gone.
