Yep, you betcha.. The difficulty is that there are so many self-proclaimed "scholars", there is no one organization that "controls" all Muslims. Islam is really individual, between the person and Allah (God).
There are a few organizations, like MAS here in America, that are making better effort to show what real Islam is about. Unfortunately when you look at so-called Muslim countries, they aren't run by a truly Islamic government.
Here is one verse, in 3 different English translations, encouraging mercy. You can go to my source for a searchable Quran/Hadith from University of Southern California. (Hadith, if you don't know, are sayings of the Prophet... recordings of how he applied Islam in real life - Hadith may remind you of Proverbs.)
003.159
YUSUFALI: It is part of the Mercy of Allah that thou dost deal gently with them Wert thou severe or harsh-hearted, they would have broken away from about thee: so pass over (Their faults), and ask for (Allah's) forgiveness for them; and consult them in affairs (of moment). Then, when thou hast Taken a decision put thy trust in Allah. For Allah loves those who put their trust (in Him).
PICKTHAL: It was by the mercy of Allah that thou wast lenient with them (O Muhammad), for if thou hadst been stern and fierce of heart they would have dispersed from round about thee. So pardon them and ask forgiveness for them and consult with them upon the conduct of affairs. And when thou art resolved, then put thy trust in Allah. Lo! Allah loveth those who put their trust (in Him).
SHAKIR: Thus it is due to mercy from Allah that you deal with them gently, and had you been rough, hard hearted, they would certainly have dispersed from around you; pardon them therefore and ask pardon for them, and take counsel with them in the affair; so when you have decided, then place your trust in Allah; surely Allah loves those who trust.
Also, we know Jesus (pbuh) as a peace loving man, so Islam encourages to be like him as well - oh, I should mention that Jesus in Arabic is "Isa", so you'll hear Arabic speakers call Him that.:
003.084
YUSUFALI: Say: "We believe in Allah, and in what has been revealed to us and what was revealed to Abraham, Isma'il, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes, and in (the Books) given to Moses, Jesus, and the prophets, from their Lord: We make no distinction between one and another among them, and to Allah do we bow our will (in Islam)."
PICKTHAL: Say (O Muhammad): We believe in Allah and that which is revealed unto us and that which was revealed unto Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac and Jacob and the tribes, and that which was vouchsafed unto Moses and Jesus and the prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and unto Him we have surrendered.
SHAKIR: Say: We believe in Allah and what has been revealed to us, and what was revealed to Ibrahim and Ismail and Ishaq and Yaqoub and the tribes, and what was given to Musa and Isa and to the prophets from their Lord; we do not make any distinction between any of them, and to Him do we submit.
Of course, Islam also encourages each individual to seek knowledge (again, not apparent in the media of so-called Muslim countries)... so if you want, you can get a free quran mailed to you, so you can decide for yourself. (link in the source). I just went down to Barnes & Noble when I was curious.

You asked, why Islam is the only religion associated with violence and terrorism? The answer is the media. The media plays an important role in today's society and I'm not just talking about this terrorism thing. You don't hear the news calling the American government terrorists for causing such an unneccessary war. You don't hear the news calling those high school shooters terrorists. The media is a psychological terrorist.
Most Muslims are peace-loving people, it is just the mindset of these non-Muslims that you have to think about.

My dear friend,
I have been married to a Muslem woman for more than 27 years.I am a Christian. The Koran speaks of Allah the mercyfull. It knows nothing of like what Jesus said;Love your enemies, pray for them that despitefully use you,If your enemy is hungry feed him.The Bible was completed in its canon in A.D.397. It does not depend on the Koran for its content. The Koran however was not completed untill about A,D. 325-330.It depends largely on Bible names and incidents. Both the Bible and the Koran can not be the true Word of God,it is one or the other.
Having said that it is not true that Islam is the only religion associated with violence and terrorism.Remember the Crusades, the many who were burned at the stake by TheR.C.Church and N.Ireland?

Thanks to the result of constant coverage of 'Islamic' terrorist groups by the media, many have naturally built up prejudice to Muslims. Like all legitimate religions, the Koran does teach love, mercy, and forgiveness. The Jihad, Al-Qaeda, and the Taliban twist the Koran's message in order to add reason to their terrorist crimes. Imagine if the Crusaders were living in modern times. A lot of people would be prejudiced to Christians because of that.

If we are speaking approximately the unconditional love that by some means entails frying humans for eternity considering that they do not grovel sufficient to you, then yep it is in there, identical to within the Bible (despite the fact that I consider the Quran is moderately much less sadistic in that sinners themselves are burned and ate up, and don't endure for ever)

Islam does teach love, mercy and forgiveness. Islam does not teach violence and terrorism.
Why Americans have occupied Iraq. What did Iraq do to America? Mulims have right to kill the oppressors and fight insurgency. Wouldn't Americans do the same if any outside force occupy America, rap your women, kill your children and humiliate you every day by stopping your cars on roads and strip search you all.
Do you know that overall in human history Christians have killed more humans in world war I, world war II, in Korea, in Vietnam, dropped A-Boms in Japan, in Afghanistan, in Iraq and now planning to kill in Iran.
Unbotton your shirt and look inside you what Christians are doing. World Super powers in history t are tiny little countries today like Romans, Greeks and British. God doesn't like cruel nations. One day it will happen to America also if it continued on their current course too long. t doesn't take God very long to destroy a nation.
Remember my post if you lived long enough when it happens to America.

Yes: Surah 9:5 kill the polytheists wherever you find them and capture them and besiege them and sit in wait for them at every place of ambush. But if they should repent, establish prayer, and give zakah, let them [go] on their way. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.
