Just becuase a book is man-written and outdated, doesn't mean the content of the book is entirely wrong or incorrect. The basis of most of these outdated books are the same. The basic message in these books is trying to teach you how to live a good life and be a good person. I think reading these books (not just the bible...expand your mind) will help you become a better person, but you have to really understand on a deeper level what they are trying to tell you.

I have trouble with old books, since I am not a traditionalist. But, some people are comforted by the fact, that something has been arround a long time. I am not such a person. Also, it is easy to go along with the crowd, than to think and explore that which is different or new. You wonder, why we are not doing very well with the problems in the world today, when people still rely on such old books to guide them.

No, but if you read the Word of God (the Bible) you will find that the message is timeless and speaks directly to your heart.

The New Testament was written almost 2000 years ago, and the Old Testament was written 1000 years+ before that. Yet the message throughout the Bible remains the same - God has a plan to lead and rescue humanity. He offers his strength and wisdom and healing power to any who will come to him humbly.

Depends on how strongly you are affected by what you read, and which book, I guess.
Also, "better person" is a matter of opinion. Simply put, only you can judge if you are "better" than before.

Try reading the Bible for yourself instead of knocking the people who wrote it and then answer your own question.
