I don't watch television and yes it would be a very welcome atmosphere if I didn't have to hear the damn thing blaring 23 hours of the day. I am REALLY convinced now that television is America's number 1 addiction. We have a problem as a society when you go into the rest room in a bar and grille and there's TV's at eye level over the urinals and large ones over the washroom sinks. I even went to a gas station recently that has TV's on the gas pumps.

Are you talking no TV set or no 'television' in general?
We are almost to the point where we don't need a TV anymore.
IF you have a large enough computer screen and fast internet, you can watch a lot of your favorite programs already.
News and weather are provided.
Traffic reports you can still get on the radio (internet reports there are still affected by time delay).
VCR? Forget it. Built in DVD players.

I lived without TV for 15 years before it was invented. Bought my first set in 1952 for 4 guineas. It had a 12 inch screen.

For a limited amount of time I could be happy with reading, listening to the radio, playing on the computer, talking on the phone but when I really need something to lull me to sleep, nothing works as well as the TV

I could live without it, but sadly I find I watch tv most nights. Do not have the net at home. So do not know what else to do with myself at night apart from tidy up and listen to music.

After 5 minutes of my TV being broken I can honestly say I am bereft! I can absoltuely never do without my tv. I love it. To me it is more essential than a washing machine.
