There are plenty of low/no shed breeds. Westies do not shed, as far as I know. But, they are horrendously hyper :) Typical Terriers.

My oldest daughter and I both have allergies, and asthma. For a long time, I didn't think it was possible to have a dog without being miserable. Now, I have found that to be untrue.

Unfortunately, there are no truly allergen-free dog breeds. Any and every dog will cause some degree of allergies in certain people prone to allergies and asthma. However, there is hope.

Single-coated dog breeds have been touted as "hypo-allergenic" for years now, and although they do still have dander, the amount is significantly less than dog with a double coat.

Poodles, Terrier breeds, and Schnauzers are some single-coated types of dogs.

It's the dander, not the furr, that harms asthmatics and those who are allergic. So shedding has nothing to do with it! Hairless cats are still bad for asthmatics. Miniature poodles are dogs I know for sure don't have dander, my extremely allergic and asthmatic niece has one and does great.
PS, I know asthmatics who run or at least walk. I don't see any reason you can't walk a dog due to asthma. Whoever said that doesn't understasnd how asthma is triggered.

Short haired ones--you actually could take any good-natured dog and have the pet groomers keep his hair really short. He'll have to be bathed regularly--asthmatics generally react to the pet dander (dead skin cells) and some element in their saliva.

I don't know the age of the person you're caring for, but I know that an animal can brighten anyone's life. If the asthmatic is a child, they would benefit greatly by learning to play a woodwind instrument. The sax helped my son immensely.

if your attacks are caused by an allergy to the dog's dander there are shampoos that will minimize this. But, of the breeds you list your best bets are probably the Yorkshire Terrier Maltese (correct spelling) or Poodle because all 3 are single coated breeds, which generally means less allergy problems for people. But, all do require extensive grooming and/or professional clipping.

None , if have a health condition like asthma you are more than likely limited to the amount of exercise you dog will require , and that isn't fair , all dog hair will bring on your asthma as all dogs shed hard toy breed to large breeds , so why no get a reptile instead

Bergamasco Sheepdog!! My son and I both have asthma and allergies and neither of us is allergic to our Bergamasco. Their coats are hair, not fur, which makes them hypoallergenic.
