If you do? Do you allow your cat to run wild?
If you do, WHY???
My neighbor has a cat that she allows to stay outside, it fouls up my garden with its stinky "treats" and pees on my plants. For those of you that have cats and allow them to run free, how would you like it if I let my dog out to do this to your property??

I am not an animal hater, I have a cat and dog myself and would never allow it to run wild outside. Not only is it harmful for the animals (they can get hit by a car, diseased, bugs, etc) but they destroy other people's property...

Next time you guys let your cats out to frolic alone at night, think about your neighbors and what they may have to put up with when you aren't watching your animals..

If you're not a responsible animal owner, put the animal up for adoption!!

Thank you everyone for your answers. I really appreciate it. It's sad to see how many irresponsible pet owners there are out there. Kudos to all of you that take care of your pets.

airlinepilotchris, you're a moron!!! I'm also glad that you're not my neighbor, I'd have your cats removed!!!!

Also, re-read what you typed, you're contradicting yourself there.

You don't own cats. They own you! Cats are considered independant creatures unlike dogs. There are some commercial products you can buy to keep kitty out of your garden. Check at your local home improvement stores. Expect to pay around $20.

A non chemical solution would be to see if you can find a motion detector that would turn on a hose pipe when triggered. Kitty would soon learn not to enter your garden otherwise, endure a bath.

My cats do not go outside besides an enclosed deck area. I can't believe some of the people who do let their cats out, especially after seeing some of the horrible things that can happen to a cat out on it's own. I had neighbors once who let their cat outside all the time, even though a few houses away was a dog that was outside almost all the time that was a known cat killer. Sure enough the dog got their cat one day while they were outside, they saw the whole thing, and not even 3 days later they had another kitten, that was outside! Apparently having their one cat get ripped apart in front of them did not teach them to keep their kitties indoors.

I have two cats Giblet and Gravy that I do not let roam free outside. Gravy tries to get out every now and then, but I am quick to stop him. My moms cat shadow goes outside during the day. When they let their dogs outside to do their business he goes out too and then he comes in a little while later. He just likes to lay in the grass in the sunshine. They live on an acre though and he doesn't go far from the house. We don't allow our animals to go into the neighbors yards.

I have 3 cats all sisters. They are not allowded to stay outside they are pets. Yes they do go out side but dont go any further than the back yard. Certinally I would not permit my cats to run wild, nor do I let them out at night.

I have 3 cats, two are strictly indoor only (except for the times I put the older one on a leash and walk her around the yard, I feel silly walking her but she loves it! ) my male cat was a stray that adopted us, and as much as I've tried to keep him in all the time, he drives the other two nuts until he can go out for a few hours, and then only hangs out in my backyard. He lived on his own in the wild before living with us, so I think he's pretty street smart. (even if he doesn't go in the street) And even though he does go out he saves his "presents" for when he's in and uses the litter box.

I have a cat - I can't really say I own him; It is more like he owns me.

I do not allow him to run wild - he is an indoor cat who ventures outside on the rare ocassion (he is 13 and has his own bedroom in which he is very content and happy). When he is outside, he is in a fenced in yard, so he is trapped.

My cats own me! And you are completely right! My big beefs are people who want to know how to keep their cats off the furniture and how to make them stop meowing. It's like they just want a cat to sit there and look pretty. They are living creatures. They should just hang a nice picture of a cat on the wall.

I have five cats in the house. They are all wel cared for and I would not think of letting them free roam, too much danger in the "real" world.

amen to that... i've dealt with our neighbors on several occasions about their dogs (chewing up the fence, digging under it, jumping over it-that was the first dog so they got rid of him and got a puppy) ...then i saw the puppy in a crate in the middle of their backyard with no food or water in direct sun in the middle of a west texas summer... i finally called animal control when it put its head through the crate and got stuck and was choking itself... i informed them what was happening before i called and they told me to mind my own business and then called the cops on me... the cop came in with the attitude that i was a nosy busy-body... oohhhhhhhhh, i was pissed! ...i do have to say that after that visit by animal control, they are now caring for their dog, though...
