I have just moved from England to Madrid and have founda boxing gym here. I am the only southpaw in the gym and when I am paired up with someone for pad work or drills they are confused and put off by my stance. I dont speak Spanish which makes it harder to explain to them how to hold the pads etc.. I have been changing to an orthadox stance to make things easier but I am most comfortable as a southpaw. Any sugestions?

Why change your stance!! If you want to then go ahead but do your own training (speed ball etc Southpaw)!! It will confuse your opponents and give you the upper hand when in the ring proper!!

Keep it up and let them get used to the fact we're all not the same!

If you're already good at using the southpaw stance, maybe it's time you try learning how to fight orthodox to make yourself more well rounded. It sure wouldn't hurt if you can abruptly switch stance midway in a match and confuse your opponent just when he found his range against you. Hagler used to do that.

Yes - find a new gym!

If they cannot work the mits for you in your natural position then they sure as hell have nothing else to offer you in the way of guidance and learning.

Southpaws are dangerous fighters - you should stick with your nature stance.

my advice is to take your regular stance for bag work / shadow boxing but try to mix it up when on the pads. find a regular partner who will get used to your stance and practise orthodox boxing too- having good jabs either side is a great weapon.

Train as an orthodox fighter and then when you get matched up in sparring you can switch styles and win many rounds because the other boxer is not able to change his mindframe quick enough.
Good luck
