Actually, I think they are (or can be) beautiful buildings. And I'm an atheist.

Sure, the religions themselves are obscene and ridiculous - no argument there. But it's impossible to enter a space like, e.g., the Basilica of St. Peter, and not feel a sense of "spiritual exaltation." That's due to the genius of the architects, of course.

When I hear about "Satanists" burning old churches - seems to happen a lot in Germany - I'm appalled. It's sad that people have been so traumatized by Christianity that they have to react in this way. It's like the Taliban blowing up those centuries-old statues of the Buddha. It's the destruction of art, which I can't abide.

Yes. Just turn on the TV. Half the programming is either obscene, rediculous, or both (example- Family Guy). Now don't get me wrong, I love rediculous, but obscene gets really really old.

For the culture of the 21st century to call the church (or even synagogues) obscene and rediculous is itself obscene and rediculous. Kindof like the smelly pig telling the freshly bathed cat that its dirty.

I don't know. A lot of the older churches, cathedrals, mosques, etc. are beautiful buildings and a testament to the architectural ability of our ancestors.

Oh man yes. In the place where I grew up, there was this huge baptist church that used the money from tithes to build this ornate fountain that shot up about 15 feet and pond out front.

It still sickens me when I drive past.

And the Bible says that "God does not dwell in temples made with hands." Acts 17: "Do you knot know that you are the temple of God?" 1 Corinthians 3:16.

So much money that could be used to feed the poor!!!

Even more ridiculous is the sight of an old man trying to pick up on a young girl. That is replusive and rediculous.

I find a number of them architecturally beautiful, so no, I disagree.

What is obscene is the oppression, bigotry, and hatred that occurs under some of their roofs.

Not all, mind you, but it is definitely out there.

Those are just buildings and many of them are well over a century old.

On the other hand a 'march for ' is fairly ridiculous.
