I'm not sure how much to spend or what to buy them. They are both 47 years old, and they are going to Cuba in January so maybe something related to that? I'm not entirely sure what though, but I want to get them something original and thoughtful. I'm thinking i'll spend around 50 dollars, if that sounds right?

Okay i don't have hundreds to spend, but they have everything plus more when it comes to digital cameras, and going out for dinner etc. does not work well in my family.

Give them the money, wrapped up in a box, with a beautiful note about their upcoming trip, and here's a little cash to spend. I did this with an anniversary trip to Vegas with my parents, but the amount was more. They loved it.
The 30th is ruby, so a keepsake with the anniversary, or the color would work.
Find something they need for the trip. A travel alarm clock?

make a collage family photo with pictures from the past 30 years. leave one place for a Cuba pic.

A really good digital camera
If they already have a digital camera - then extra photo-cards so they can take and store lots and lots of pix.

How about a nice gift certificate to their favorite romantic restaurant where they can go dancing. Then they can spend a lovely night and have time to themselves, and be able to celebrate their love for each other.

riversconfluence's idea with the ruby is great. Maybe a photo of them together in a jeweled frame? Something sentimental is always nice, with CHOCOLATE!!!
