Firstly, I don't know which god you are wanting the serious reason to believe in but for the sake of argument I'll start with "a" god. There are a number of books and arguments that will state both sides, but I believe a good place to start (others will likely disagree) is the issue of the world we live in. If the universe has a beginning such as a big bang then what existed to create the bang - one of the laws of energy is that it cannot be created or destroyed but merely change its form. To me, that starts me thinking that a higher being must have "existed" before that point to be the source of that energy.
Additionally, I look around at the amazing creation and can only wonder how everything could have "evolved" when it generally results in the losing of information, not the gaining of information (certainly on a grand scale). If a giraffe, for example, did not have the "spongey bit" (I don't have the reference to hand here) by its brain, its brain would explode or lose all blood as it crouched to drink...
In essence, I realise this is a simplistic argument in terms depth but I feel it will have to suffice for now!
Personally, as a Christian, I believe in a Creator God. I believe that is where the evidence ultimately points and that we were created ultimately to glorify Him. Examine the evidence openly and see where you are led. True science is something that can be tested, so if creationism is considered a theory, it is no more or less theory than the big bang theory - if we were not there and have no record of conditions, we cannot test it scientifically. Unless I'm severly mistaken (happy to consider any comments on that one!)

The Old Testament contains hundreds of prophecies about who the “messiah” would be, and how people could recognize him.
Unlike prophecies from Ms. Cleo, who couldn’t foresee her own legal problems, the prophecies in the Bible are detailed and told far into the future.
For instance the book of Isaiah was written, if you use the most critical standards at least three or four hundred years before Jesus came, yet it correctly predicted many specifics. A few examples of predictions are that the Messiah would have a messenger come before him and prepare people, he would be rejected and killed when he came, he would pray for those who killed him, and that he would be buried in a rich man’s tomb. All of these, just like every prophecy, was fulfilled in Jesus.
But just how likely is it that someone could accidentally fulfill these prophecies? How do we know that it is actually from God, and not just a big coincidence? For this we look at statistics.
The odds that you could have twins are 1 in 50. The chances that you could win the California lottery are 1 in 41,416,353. Now some of you watching this video may have twins
California lottery are 1 in 41,416,353. Now some of you reading this may have twins but I doubt any of you have won the California lottery.
I’m also pretty sure none of you watching were killed on a bus ride, - 1 in 500,000,000, or an airplane flight which is 1 in 4,600,000. Wow, I’m taking the bus.
And just for good measure let’s look at the odds of winning two lotteries on one day: 1 in 24,000,000,000.
So how does this compare to the odds that someone could fulfill the prophecies Jesus did? Well, Jesus fulfilled hundreds of prophecies – but not all of those are measurable. For example, being born of a virgin is fairly hard to measure. So, out of the hundreds of prophecies mathematicians have calculated the probability that anyone could fulfill just 48 of those prophecies. Those odds are 1 in 10^157.
What does that mean? Let’s add up all of our other statics…and throw a few more in for the heck of it:
The Odds of you winning the state lottery, and going home to find that you just had twins, then dying on a bus ride to another state where you win that state lottery also... And when you phone home you realize that your wife just had quadruplets, and when you go outside to rejoice you see that the world was just hit by a seriously damaging meteor from outer space all in the same day:... the odds?
1 in 87580000000000000000000000000000
(1 in 8758 to the 28th power)
Compare that to the odds that Jesus could fulfill the prophecies he did…
1 in 100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000
(1 in 10 to the 157th power)
The difference between $1 and a MILLION dollars is 6 zeros. The difference here is 126 zeros!
So what does that mean? Only God could have made this circumstances come together in the person known as Jesus Christ.
Jesus must be the God-messiah that the Bible predicted.
Anyway, this is just one proof. There are many more.

We have five hundred muscles in the body, and they are all controlled by the will, the mind. When I strike with my hand or beat with my fist, there is a will behind the hand and the fist. My muscles do not act unless there is a command to contract. The thing that is all essential is the will, it is the commanding power. My arm will contract and cause the fist to beat; but it beats only when my will commands.
But here is a muscle in the body that beats when I am asleep. It beats when my will is inactive and I am utterly unconscious. It keeps on beating all the time. What will is it that causes this heart to beat? The heart cannot beat once without a command!
In the beating of that heart that you can feel, as you put your hand upon the breast, or as you put your finger against the pulse, we have THE EVIDENCE of another will, a divine will, an unseen, mighty Intelligence, a power, a will within, that is commanding the functions of our bodies and controlling them. The entire being is under the SUPERVISION of God!
"In Him we live and move and have our being." Acts 17:28.
All created beings live by the will and power of God!
This is an undeniable SCIENTIFIC FACT that can only be explained by the presence and power of God!

No, but if you do find any evidence, be a bit careful. God showed up in person with plenty of evidence, but this was so inconvenient to the religious people of the day that they beat him up, stripped him, spat on him, whipped him to shreds, pressed thorns into his head, dragged him through the city and nailed him to a tree outside until he died. Then even more inconveniently, he came back to life and raised 500 others at the same time. Most of these historical facts are confirmed by the writings of his enemies.

If you have an entity to whom you can hand over your burdens, you will travel life with a much lighter step. It's a matter of trust as much as faith.
If I didn't have this support, I think I would go crazy from stress and the burdens of living.
My evidence is that after I put my problems in God's hands, I feel much better and something soon comes up that helps. It is probably a psychological thing: changing ones attitude makes one more approachable and open to those who may have a solution.
Ignore all the idiots who rant on about hell and the devil. They're the kind of people who put people off religion.

faith usually means you believe without evidence, however as an ex atheist this is usually a pointless exercise and I don't believe God simply expects you to believe because christians say so. I had a dramatic encounter spiritually with God so my belief is based on experience and not blind faith. It happens differently to everyone. forget the evidence, that's not how spiritual things always work, start praying, asking and searching, talk to god like he's a friend and say 'well if you're there, you'll have to show me'. searching, is usually the best way for god to answer. I didn't even go to a church in order to become a christian, remember, a relationship with jesus is a one on one, not a church experience.
there are chrisitan scientists who have disproved some of the theories of evolution and science is not the enemy of God, so perhaps you could also do some scientific research as well as spiritually searching. most of hte christian scientists started of as ordinary scientists but became christians through what science revealed to them.

I see you have attracted a lot of flippant answers. Easy points I guess. I can't give you a serious answer as to why you should believe in God, and neither can anyone. They can only give you their own reasons for doing so, and that is not proof in itself. In fact it is really impossible to prove, because there is no tangible evidence. If there was, we would all have to believe! I don't personally believe in him, probably for the same reasons as yourself. No proof. Sometimes it depends on your upbringing. If you have been brought up to believe in an Almighty and your parents were good people, it tends to make it's mark, and it is difficult to deny it later on due to fear or respect. But at the same time, I am compelled to believe that there is a higher influence than ourselves. We are not in overall control. The influence of the sun, moon, the control of the tides and the seasons cannot be accidental. Perhaps we call it 'nature'. But what controls that? So I do believe that we owe respect to something more powerwerful than ourselves, but it is not one bloke sitting upstairs in judgement of us all. What it is I am not privvy to. The mere fact that we are born with a conscience between right and wrong tells me that we are the product of something good, and our privilege is that we have life. We should appreciate everything that we have, and distribute love as far as we can, to make it as enjoyable as we can in these difficult times.

You want scientific (natural) evidence for something that is supernatural.
You will be very limited.
Nature is evidence for the existence of God. Intricate design can imply a designer. Plus all of the wonders of Nature.
Also the Bible as a text. Not a specific Scripture. But the fact that the Bible never contradicts itself theologically, its talking about the SAME God throughout written over centuries by dozens of authors. The oldest major world religion.
And the final piece of evidence is miracles. Whether that be medical miracles or lives changed miracles.
Again this perhaps isn't court worthy evidence. Yet this shows that FAITH in God is both logical and reasonable.

Take all the knowledge in the universe and imagine it as a pie. Cut a piece out that represents all YOU know about the universe. How do you know God doesn't exist outside your knowledge and you just don't know him yet? I wish I could open you up and give you all the knowledge (yes, knowledge) I have about God. I wish you could see thru my eyes the times I have been the miracle. How I have actually been healed overnight. How life is actually full now. I don't wanna preach. The only hardcore evidence I have is me.

I've been in your position before, doubting that God exists.
But I've learned that, sometimes, logic doesn't really matter. I know that sounds really dumb... but there is no other way of putting it. I know with all of my heart that there is a God out there, and that God is loving and caring and all-knowing. Now, this is something you will never figure out if you don't let go of the logic and just roll with it. When "new" Christians first start out, their minds are filled with doubt and worry. As their christian "lives" progress they experience blessings and trials. Through these trials your faith and belief in God grows.
As far as the Hell/Trinity thing, every branch of Christianity is different, But there is a God, Son and Spirit and there is a heaven and a hell. So I challenge you, spend one week trying to apply God's word to your life, see if you feel any different. What do you have to lose?
