This has been of great debate for a long time in the GF community! Last i checked ont heir site, they said no.
Most Celiacs do not eat their fries or hashbrowns bc McDs wont verify if they do contain gluten or not, and it seems to vary country to country and store tos tore. If u know they fry them with the breaded products then absolutely no they are not safe.
Generally speaking, many Celiacs avoid the fries and hash browns, others say they eat the fries with no problem. Seems theres really no right answer but int he US, last I checked the McD's site, it said they are not gluten free!

Only McDonald's knows the answer to this and they certainly are not going to tell you because they may not even know. Their chicken McMaggots did not even have chicken in them until recently. As an example, each hamburger is a combination of about 1,000 cows from all around the world. They combine all the meat, package it, and then send it to all their stores. They put sugar in their buns so that when they put them on the grill, the sugar burns and makes them look more cooked than they are and the buns can be wadded up in your hand and you will get raw dough. The oils they use to produce the french fries is vegetable oil made from soybeans, canola, or cottonseeds. These oils are genetically engineered and create many diseases, allergies in children and other problems. When the oils are delivered to them, they are rancid and when heated, even slightly, they polymerize into trans fats that clog your arteries. There so called healthy diets are loaded with garbage like heavily sprayed vegetables grown on depleted soils for maximum profit.

In regard to your son's celiac disease, I would contact a certified nutritional therapist to find out what he is deficient in and build his body up so it can be strong. I certainly would not ever, ever go to McMaggots again. October 16 is International Anti-McDonald's day. It is celebrated all around the globe now.

I would also read the book "Fast Food Nation" for attaining great knowlege on the Fast Food Industry.

good luck to you

I'm pretty sure I heard that they are NOT gluten free. The fries aren't your regular fries made by cutting up potatoes, but are reconstituted, and I was told they put flour into the mix to get a consistent result.

I'm not too sure about the hash browns, but I'm sure they would shout it from the rooftops if they were gluten free, aren't you? I mean, marketing is their big thing, right?

Anyway, if they won't say what's in there, best not touch it.

Macdonalds has nutrition info on their web site, and you can also contact them by email to get answers to specific questions.

NO!!! I have found several web-sites that say they are, however, assuming McDonald's know best, the ingredient list for hash browns on their web-site says THEY ARE NOT. The "natural beef flavor" contains wheat:

Potatoes, vegetable oil (canola oil, hydrogenated soybean oil, natural beef flavor [wheat and milk derivatives]*, citric acid [preservative]), salt, corn flour, dehydrated potato, dextrose, sodium acid pyrophosphate (maintain color), extractives of black pepper. Prepared in vegetable oil: Canola oil, corn oil, soybean oil, hydrogenated soybean oil with TBHQ and citric acid added to preserve freshness. Dimethylpolysiloxane added as an antifoaming agent.
CONTAINS: WHEAT AND MILK.

*(Natural beef flavor contains hydrolyzed wheat and hydrolyzed milk as starting ingredients).
