When you die, your brain ceases to function, but not for a few hours. In this time it is said that hallucinations are possible, EX: NDE's. Do you suppose we create our own afterlives? Do you suppose that whatever it is we are expecting after death is what we receive? This would explain those who experience nothing, while others have severely religious experiences. Reality is subjective to perception. Our minds cannot tell the difference between what is seen with our eyes and the eyes of our minds. Could we actually create our own heaven or hell?

Additionally, dreams happen VERY quickly. What may feel like a full day may only be a few seconds. If this dying process is taking hours, imagine the amount of time that can be spent in your self created afterlife.

I've given this a lot of thought. The electro-chemical processes that provide for conciousness inour brain cease to sustain themselves at the moment of death, but considering the the law of the conservation of energy and matter, is there a such thing as the conservation of conciousness? Could the energy that is my conciousness one day drive nuclear fusion in the heart of a star one day? Did it once before?
But like Morningstar said, it's probably just wishful thinking on my part.

My opinion, based on last investigations, & be careful, I do´`t take them for granted at all, say that all the views caughted from different versions have a common description about the initial way to death. It was explined as a natural consequence of brain`s chemical substancens that produce these effects, so, when we die, as you propose, definivily ends to nothing else but end of the story

After we die contents of our body slowly re-cycle in earth because it is made of the contents that come out of dust through the vegetable and protein from meat we and these are the products of dust in earth. Our soul that comes from God stays in holding place called 'BARZAGH' in Quran. I don't know the right word for Barzagh in English language.
When God will resurrect all humans the body will be reconstructed again and its original soul will be put back into the body for our accountability on the Day of Judgment.
Rest of your thoughts do not make any sense. As you are confused, all humans will remain confused like you as long as they refuse to believe in God. It is not possible for humans to know the mystery of our creation and who created us. That is why God sent Messengers and Divine Revelations to them for our guidance and to explain us the unseal facts which we can not figure by ourselves.

Sheol I heard. NDE's are interesting. I think there is more to our life than meets the eye. Perhaps when near death you can see with open spiritual eyes.

Humans are very powerless, especially when it comes to death. When you die the spirit that you've given your allegiance to claims you, and that's when you spiritually sense joy or despair. Many people on the cusp of death have sensed these things and their comments confirm their lives, and that the end justifies the means.

Yes, the only way such things exist is in the imagination.
