And of course, here comes another cultural curiousity point on my part ---> What exactly is a Hell House?

Is it like a Haunted House? And if so, why do i always hear it associated with churches.

Well, i have to say. That's pretty laughable and disturbing at the same time.

A Hell House is a variation on a haunted house, where the scary scenes involve different consequences of sin and the final scene is usually a portrayal of Hell. At the end of the tour, the people going through it get a fire and brimstone sermon on hell. Usually the true nature of the house is played down to the people who come to go through it.

I have had the experience of going through one unwittingly, and I will say that even as a Christian I found it offensive and a bit "over-the-top". I'm not sure this is an effective approach for Christians to use to reach out to the lost.

People around me were either laughing and seeing it all as a big joke, or like me they seem a bit disturbed to be hearing a gospel message in this context. I personally believe that we should be loving people and praying people to Jesus instead of trying to scare them to Him.

Our local Hell House is put on by the Baptists. In the past is has featured scenes of abortion, monkey relatives, that kind of stuff. Today, it probably has terrorists or Hillary Clinton or something. It's nothing like a traditional haunted house and is geared more toward fundamental Christian fears.

Hell House is a sort of huanted house maze that you walk through and see different scenes of bad thing happeneing to people and in the last scene all these people find Christ, accept him into their hearts and get saved. Its the church's way to reach out to people and an alternative to a haunted house. They sort of "wintess" to you at the end and ask you if you want to be saved.
Its not that great. If you really want to have fun, go to a real haunted house.

It's where a lot of people are trying to cook and this one guy is yelling and cursing at them...ah nevermind that's hell's kitchen...sorry. It's like a haunted house, but they have what they think hell will be like in it, to try to convince you to get saved before its too late.

They try to scare people with play acting images of hell. They then take an opportunity to try and ram their religious fears down your throat.

What Grim said.
It's awful and it's Christianity at it's worst. It's awful.
And it does NOT reinforce faith in God. It just shows it's ugly side.
