Baking soda being an alkali will neutralize the acid and i add a wee bit .too much will alter the flavor dramatically I advise experiment and see. I presume heartburn ha . And sugar will not ( neutralize) anything because it's not an alkali.It does sweeten the acidic "Bite" But will not reduce the acidity.or alter the PH

Yes it does. However it also makes the sauce thicken and lose its texture, even taste kind've bland. I would rather put some sugar in the sauce than Baking Soda. You could also throw a few raw carrots in if you don't want to add sugar.

Baking Soda will neutralize battery acid so I don't see why it couldn't handle tomato sauce.

i believe so typical tomato sauce having a pH in the range of between about 4.3 and 5. while baking soda has a ph of around 8 or 9. they should pretty much equal out to 7 or there abouts

No, actually it will make it bitter. Instead use 1 tablespoon Balsamic or wine vinegar + 1 teaspoon sugar or 1 1/2 tablespoons red wine - the effect of the vinegar and sugar will neutralize the acidity of the tomato. Enjoy!

Instead of baking soda, just put it in the microwave to heat up. No idea how baking or microwaving your soda affects your tomato sauce. Try putting that in your oven or micro.

I use a 1/2 cup of red wine and a little olive oil. Maybe the sugar in the wine helps with the acid?? I know it gives it a great taste,
