He doesn't need them.
They're strictly for the greed of the Televangelists.

How do you know those are God's followers? Maybe they are just claiming to be to get money. The Bible shows what true Christians are like. The Christian television station I work at doesn't have telethons and God still has people that send us donations to keep on the air for the hurting and broken people all over the world who need Christ.

I have worked in Christian televsison. Several misconceptions have been posted in the answers to thsi question.
First, if you compare the amount of "telethon" time to the amount of airing of shows, most Christians stations use less then 2% of their total airtime for that purpose. The 98% is providing programming designed to help people in their walk with God.
The purpose of Christian televison is NOT to raise money for the poor or to give to charity. It is to broadcast televison programs. So of course the vast majority of money raised is going to go into broadcast expenses. Just as the vast majority of money earned by a car manufacturer is going to go into the cost of producing cars, or the vast majority of money earned in a grocery store is going to go into run the store. That only makes sense.
Most Christians ministries, including Christians television, do practice the principle of tithing. That is 10% of what they receive is given to "charity". The remainding 90% is used for what it is intended, to keep the television shows on the air. Any other use would be fraud. The includes having to pay the salary of the employees, just as an car company or grocery store would. So of course the people employed their as the host, etc., receive a salary from the donations.
Do those kind of programs do any good? I have lost count of the number of people that the station I worked for had helped. We use to average at least two suicide attempt calls every week (and we were a very small station). Not to mention the women calling for help in abusive situations, families in need of financial help, people strung out on drgus or alchohal. We were able to connects hundreds every years with local churches where they are able to find shelter, clothes, food, marriage counseling, drug and alcohal rehab programs, and much more.
To do the things that God calls us to do too often money. No Christian should ever feel guilty or have to apology for asking people to support that work of God - whether in televison or elsewhere.
If you do not want to give, simply turn the channel. (Like you watch the channel the rest of the time when the telethons are not on.)

I was gonna give you a glib sarcastic response, but Jon M took the words right outta my mouth.
Televangelists and the people who host those telethons have no1s best interests but their own in mind. If they collect $1Million, I'm sure half of it would go to the expenses incurred from producing/coordinating the show. The percentage that actually reaches the poor (if any at all) would be small compared to what is actually raised.

Insults are not necessary. Some Christians are home bound or work during regular services, so they are blessed by TV ministers. A person who wants to give supports these programs, it takes millions. Many of the most popular programs also have outreach ministries where the hungry are fed, the sick prayed for and given medicine and the gospel preached. No one makes you watch or support these ministries, so don't let it bother you. I don't like MTV and would never support it, but I just don't watch it or hassle the ones who do.

I'm Christian and I still agree with you on this one. Your tithe and your alms should be given to YOUR local new testament church not some idiot on the television who's probably preaching what he thinks will increase his ratings rather then the truth. Most TV preachers are more concerned with being popular then preaching the truth. "I can't preach that!!! Every one would stop watching!"

Because some people with very boring lives only know the world and live through television, so it's the only way to knock on their wooden heads.

Sadly, a lot of people use religion to take advantage of others, just like they'll use it as an excuse to mistreat or judge others. Gives the rest of us religious folks (the nice ones) a bad name ><

Well, you are right. But the thing is- everyone wants to feel good about themselves. I believe most people give money to those idiots b/c they just want to feel that they have done something good. Then, there are those who are just gullible and really believe that their money will be used "to further the Kingdom and work of God." Its bologna but yeah, some people are just stupid like that.
