The community vicar coming to college and giving a verbal replace at assembly. He got here evey week so i grew to become into purely 4 as quickly as I first pay attention a sermon. God and Jesus and all that... I went homestead and requested my mom and dad what it grew to become into and that they advised me that i ought to have self belief it if i wanted to. i desperate it grew to become right into slightly too weird and wonderful, i do no longer think of i loved the assumption of an person 'worshipping' something like that; it appeared incorrect someway. So i desperate on the age of four that the church grew to become into purely a club which you need to connect; i stated 'no thank you' and that i'm happy i did. Being open minded is plenty greater exciting; i could plenty relatively be chuffed than precise.

A lot of them. I did a couple of plays in front of the congregation. I also played bells for the church as a kid. I was very active active in the church. I enjoyed the social value of religion. Unfortunately it all fell apart when I started to develop cognitive thinking.

I honestly only have negative, hurtful memories of my religious upbringing. How can you have fond memories when the bible and religion were used as punishments from my parents and the church?
Hold up, I did think of something positive. Church picnics! I loved getting together with everyone and just having fun, and of course, the food!

Yeah watchin' all the churchies rattle their purses so everyone would take notice as they put money in the collection tray.
That was a positive religious related miracle for me.

I had many friends in the church as i grew up from early childhood into my teens. We did lots of things together such as camping, dinners, etc. Those were great times that I still look on fondly. The problem was, I never believed.
edit: thumbs-down, eh? some people just can't get past their prejudices i guess.

I always sat with my grandparents in church, and I would beg my grandfather for candy. He never had any so he gave me cough drops instead. It made my mom sooo mad. Those are some of my best memories. I really miss my grandparents. :)
My grandfather was a stern Dutchman, but my grandma used to tell me stories about in church when he was young everyone was supposed to sit stiff and face forward without looking around at all. They would pass Whilimena Peppermints down the isle among the family and eat them very discretely. One day my grandfather and his twin brother replaced the peppermints with moth balls and passed them onto my great-grandfather. He put one in his mouth, but had to keep his composure and a straight face because of the church custom back them. That story always makes me smile.

Yeah, the closeness of the community was nice. If they could just do it as neighbors instead of church-goers....
It is okay, because we found another "community" that we are a part of, and everyone is a lot more friendly and open in it.

my most positive experiences had to do with when we would go on retreats and meet other people. however, we never really discussed religion, we were just being ourselves and getting to know everyone. i guess since we were all the same religion we didn't care to talk about it. go figure...

The church I went to used to take the college kids out to eat afterward. Free food in college was enough of a miracle for me.
