I have been dealing with depression for the last 10 years. It has escalated to cutting myself in the last few weeks. For some strange reason I have this urge to be in the hospital and taken care of. I've thought of taking pills just so I can go. Monday I go to my psychiatrist but I keep getting depressed for no reason. When I'm not hurting myself, I'm trying to find new ways to do so. I can't remember a time that I was truly happy. Obviously this isn't normal, but why do I feel this way?

I think I understand where you are coming from.. I want to be hospitalized as a "safe" place and I feel that the only way to do that is to majorly overdose, which I did do last night... but unfortunately I woke up.. I'm a cutter as well, my left wrist is so sore that it almost feels like it's broke. I think you do need to go and talk to someone before Monday.. I know I'm a hypocrite...Good Luck

NO. I've been in the childrens psych ward this year and im 14 and it was AWFUL. First of all, the staff there arent even that nice. They yell at you if you dont cooperate with them and dont "take care of you". When i first got there, they drew my blood and since im afraid of needles, i started to argue and whine and they basically said to shut up and get it over with. When i was there i didnt eat much, and instead of the staff not saying anything, one of them actually made fun of me for not eating and always exercising. Then they wouldnt even let my go to the gym because they thought i would run away, which i wouldnt. Then they force you to take medicine that doesnt even work. You say no, then they argue with you and keep you there until you say yes. Then theres activity therapy, since its the inpatient, you dont have to participate if you dont want to, which is like only the caring thing they did. If you do participate they make you draw and do stupid things that dont even help with your "treatment plan". The kids there are really bad, they had to be restrained with a brace thing so they wouldnt hurt themselves, and we all had to be monitored my surveliince cameras even in MY own room.
since your probably an adult, and you wont be staying in the childrens psych ward, trust me, the adult psych ward it a living HELL. When i got discharged i happened to pass by the adult part and saw some mangled, dead, crazy looking woman or man[dont know which] who was sprawled face down on the window with this creppy *** expression.
Just dont feel this way, the hospital/psych ward is a horrible place to be. You think theyre nice and caring but they actually have to be strict in order to gain respect from the crazy people, and the staff there are so annoyed with working with psycos all the time that they are basically mean to everyone because they cant take it anymore.
SO THE HOSPITAL IS NOT THE RIGHT PLACE TO BE, OKAY?

You can go to the emergency room; it's not just for physical ailments. I think a little stay at the hospital would really good for you. You will be able to be surrounded by people that actually understand how crappy you feel... and that alone is very therapeutic. It's not as bad as they make it seem in movies. It will be a nice retreat for yourself and you will be able to get the help you need. No one deserves the misery you are going through!

I feel that way too, sometimes- I wish I would get sick and end up in the hospital so I wouldn't have to deal with work and the people that cause me stress. It would also make my loved ones pay more attention to me. But its not a healthy thought... go to the ER and tell them about these thoughts, and tell them you need help fast.

If you feel a hospitalization might help, you can ask your psychiatrist to admit you. Keep in mind, you want to go to the type of psych hospital where help is offered, and where group counseling and individual counseling is in place.

If you do opt to go to the hospital, please continue your treatment through the help of a therapist, and continue seeing your psychiatrist.

take care... and until Monday, please spend time with those who love you, and also keep yourself busy.. Maybe go for walks or dive into a project or hobby. If you have someone to talk with do so! And if you can't wait til monday, go to the ER.

I surely wish you all the best. hugs

There are many possible reasons. Go to the Er. Don't wait for your appointment. Don't try to have a reason. When you get to the ER, tell them just what you typed in your question. They will have you evaluated and maybe have you admitted for observation and psyche consult.

You don't have to wait for your appointment. Call your psychiatrist's office and tell them you are suicidal or have a friend do it. If they ask you how you plan to do it, just tell them that "if I told you, you could stop me". That is what finally worked for me. If your psychiatrist doesn't put you in the hospital when you could be a danger to yourself, then he/she is begging for a malpractice suit.

I know How you Feel i was like that before i turned myself in for help
you feel like that because you feel hopeless and guilty and feel bad about your self and you just want someoe else to take on your problems and make your decisions for you because you feel like you've failed at that you want to go back to a time when you could be taken care of.

i understand i did that to i'd go to a psychiatric facility where they can take care of you and help you and teach you how to cope and take care of yourself.

it is obvious you suffer from a severe clinical form of depression, suggest that a psychiatrist is the professional you need to see, they have a much better understanding of mental health issues and of the meds used to treat these issues.

it sounds to me like you have a personality disorder which is a mental health illness which unfortunately medication will not really help. you need talking therapies such a cbt and dbt. everything you have said sounds like you have this illness.
