Do people still watch TV from those big satellite dishes? Can you still get channels?

Yes , if you have the room for one and have a good view of the southern sky.

Hundreds of channels are available for free , you will need a Analog receiver or 4DTV receiver , and a FTA mpeg 2 DVB receiver slaved .

Some of those channels maybe of little interest if you don't care about foreign language or religious programming , but there are still plenty of feeds and other cool channels to make it a neat hobby and you can still subscribe to some channels.

In fact some of the sporting events alone is worth owning a Big Dish.

Check out some of the channel list available on the web to find out what channels you can pick up.

C-band is still the main carrier for network and cable services. All is scrambled, either digicypher or DVB. Occassionally there are "open" feeds if you have an IRD (digicypher) or FTA (DVB) capable receiver. I think that PBS still offers one analog feed for rural america.
