Best Time To Visit Cairns

2016-09-29 01:03:08 · answer #2 · answered by ? 4 · 0 0

It depends on what you expect of a holiday...if you are interested in visiting the reef , seeing crocs in the wild up on the Daintree River , Bungee Jumping , White Water rafting & all things tropical then you won't be disappointed having your holiday in Cairns & the far north...btw , all these adventures cost so you need to do some research & see if it fits into your budget... If on the other hand you are more interested in theme parks , beaches & all things touristy then as the other contributor has suggested , the Gold Coast has it all ... The other factor that has a lot of bearing on it is what time of year you can go....the tropics are NOT the place to go in the wet season from Nov to April ...far better off to stay in Southern Queensland / Northern NSW at that time of year ...

Even in the stinger season you can swim off shore i.e. on the Great Barrier Reef or off-shore islands. Also you will get a better deal on sightseeing tours because of the fewer visitors in summer. If extreme humidity does you in though avoid Nov-Mar! For more ideas on how to have a cheap trip to Cairns check here http://gobudgettravel.com/500-getaways/australia-budget-travel-cairns

I grew up and lived in Cairns for over 20 years and personally, I love Cairns weather all year round. Lots of people complain about the heat and humidity but it never bothered me, probably cause I did grow up there...

Cairns does have "stinger season" which is usually from November to May. You can still swim in the ocean within the enclosures but you really do have to be careful as jelly fish have been known to make it in there and give some nasty stings.

I love the ocean, but preferred to swim at one of the many freshwater rivers or swimming holes around the North...there are so many and its very relaxing swimming at a waterfall. If you are lucky enough to make friends with some locals they will be able to take you to some great swimming places.

The cooler weather months are from about June/July through to September. Not that is cold, but its not hot and you can swim in the ocean without the fear of jelly fish stings...

Of course, you can always travel out to one of the islands to swim or go to the reef. Fitzroy Island is nice for a day trip just be sure to make the trek to Nudey Beach, its probably my favorite beach in the North...

Have fun in Cairns...ask a local to take you to Fairyland...if they dont know where it is, they are probably not a local (smile)....

The best time to visit Cairns is the dry season - May to September. Everything is up and running and you can get everywhere you want to go. Roads are sometimes flooded in the wet season. The dry season is also the safest time for swimming and you won't get tropical cyclones which are a threat in the wet. April and October are usually OK but you can still get afternoon thunderstorms and showers.

I spent a year in Cairns and found the Australian Winter had the most pleasant weather. It was Winter when we arrived (from Sydney) and it was about 26 degrees Celsius everyday. Thoroughly enjoyed Cairns until the height of Summer hit and then the humidity was quite unbearable.

I really can't tell you - I was hoping to come here to see and cheer on answer by K Bear, a regular user in this section. She lives in Cairns and is the guru of all things Cairns-ish.

Where are you K Bear?
