It takes about 6 hours to chill. Not that long to get hot. It is good 30 days after tapping. Hot/cold cycles affect the quality of any beer. It has a shelf life of 1 year before tapping, it is pasteurized so it is stable. Enjoy responsibly-- The Heineken Man!

Don't worry about keeping it cold. You can always chill it before you open it. The big problem with the mini kegs is oxygen is introduced into the beer to dispense it. Beer hates oxygen and goes flat and stale in a few days. Bars use CO2 to dispense beer and it lasts longer. So if you spend $18.00 for a 5 liter of beer you need to drink it up quickly. It doesn't spoil, but will get warm within 10-18 hours (you will see condensation on the keg when it is cooling off). I never let that happen, would rather drink it than...oh, but that isn't what you asked!

The optimal temperature for serving a pint of beer is about 40º F for most beers, also known as cellar temperature. American light lagers (Miller / Bud) talk about serving their drinks Ice Cold to mask the lack of flavor. They would rather market beer as something to cool you down, rather than a flavor to enjoy and savor.

In the old days prior to refrigeration, beers were kept in cellars that kept a constant temperature. Allowing a beer to get too warm causes the gasses to expand, and the beer loses carbonation. Too cold and the beer sucks up too much carbonation, so if you serve it at a warmer temperature it will give too much head (if it's hooked up to CO2).

it won't spoil, just get it to the fridge soon as you can. how long it stays cold depends on the temperature it is exposed to.
enjoy!
