I will tell you that the negatives of being overweight are over-exaggerated and often not proven. I was a psychology major in college, and the thing we were always told about statistics was that "correlation does not prove causation"--what this means in plain English is that just because people who are "overweight" may have more incidence of certain illnesses, it doesn't mean that being fat CAUSED those illnesses. I am not saying that eating healthily isn't a good idea, but just that being "overweight" may not be as bad as the media and scientists would like us to think it is.
Specific advantages? Less chance of osteoporosis is one. Read Kate Harding's page (listed below) for more information. Also, dieting itself is way more unhealthy than living your life as a size 16.
Check out Kate Harding's Flickr photostream of "overweight" and "obese" people (according to the BMI measurements, which are obviously faulty!)

Hi,
I think 12 - 16 isn't Chubby, it's average. But the term "overweight" has to take into account a persons height too don't forget.
There are also different degrees of being overweight, ie, slightly overweight to morbidly obese.
If you are carrying extra weight it is still possible to be healthy all though to much is bad for your health.
Remember some fats (from oily fish and nuts)are essential, so perhaps bigger girls also get more of these in their diets.

Since when is a size UK size 12 considered overweight? And sizes 14-16 can be perfectly okay too, depending on height and build.
I think you probably just insulted a lot of ladies, including myself. Now kiss my size 12 a-rse! Just kiddin' lol : P

I think you may find that a lot of girls who are size 12 -16 would not be considered medically overweight. I myself am; and the only pro I can think of (courtesy of my darling man) is that in a competition where I could win my weight in gold, I'de sure be rich!

While you may be into "chubby girls", no girl size 12-16 would appreciate being called that.
Rethink your terms.

Knowing that people genuinely appreciate you and not just your looks. I don't believe for a second that overweight girls are unattractive, although the clothes made for them suck. I hate the way the material is cut...eek, not every girl who's overweight wants to show cleavage.

whatever benefits there are.. if any.. I don't think are worth your health. Nobody is saying be super skinny.. a little thickness isn't bad at all.. but overweight is a little different.
"hey... I may die at a young age from a stroke.. but HEY! I have REAL friends!!"

Your friends tend to actually be your friends rather than "hangers on".
If a guy falls in love with you, chances are it will last longer.
You're better insulated against the cold (unfortunately that also means you sweat more easily).

There aren't really any...Other than i guess you know if someone likes you its not for your loooks!
The cons are that you're unhealthy, out of shape, and you're not showing off your body to its full potential. The biggest thing is your health though.
