It never ceases to amaze me just how many moms are so quick to tell you how to raise your child and think b/c they have a child, they know everything. I experienced this very often and am just sick of it. Any of you experience this?

I'M TALKING ABOUT MOMS GIVING ADVICE WHEN IT'S NOT ASKED!!! Obviously if I am asking on here, then I am asking for advice!

Ok, also talking about in person, NOT on here. This is a question and answer place. I don't mean on here.

Yes I have! In "real" life (as in not on Yahoo) my response has always been....thank you very much I will take that into consideration....you are not saying you agree with them or plan to follow their advice but you are saying that you have heard them and don't really want any more of their unsolicited advice!

Some moms are like that, some aren't. I will give advice, based on what I have experienced with my daughter as a mom, but I wouldn't expect anyone else to follow it religiously or anything. It's more like suggestions to help someone else out, not a "you should definitely do this" kind of thing. And I'll be the first to admit I don't know it all - far from it actually! But I know how you feel. Just let them get it out, let it in one ear and out the other if you want to, and just do what you want anyway. Just cuz someone gives you their 'advice', doesn't mean you have to follow it...

There is a difference between sharing helpful hints and lecturing to another mom. If someone asks a question on here, I'm very eager to answer because I'm a new mom too and I appreciate learning new things. If you ask answers on here, you have to expect that you're going to get hints and lectures though... so just take what you want from it and ignore the others.
As for this happening outside of yahoo answers... I really don't like it either, however, if you ask a question, you should be ready to get an assortment of answers. If I get suggestions without asking a question, then I just shrug it off and say thanks...
I wouldn't get too upset about it, most moms are just trying to help each other out.

Parenting is a very controversial subject isn't it?
Of course as with anything it can be hard to interpret tone and intent in writing.
All parents are usually proud of what they have learned along the way and may just express it in an incorrect manner. Advice and opinions are great but in the end you have to rely on your own judgment and instincts.

Honestly, I think most of them are genuinely trying to help. Mums tend to care. Thank them for their concern, and if they get intrusive, don't be afraid to (politely) let them know that the intrusion is not welcome.
I'm a single mum... and for some reason for a few years that just made everyone more determined to force their help and advice onto me. I took what was useful and threw out the rest. lol... never burnt bridges though, well meaning, caring babysitters are always welcome!

well if i was a know it all which i'm not then why would i be asking questions here, lol no one knows it all there are just those who think they do and have the belief that the way they raise their kids supercedes(sp?) how everyone else raises their kids, and they have the belief that their parenting skills are much better than your own. Don't concern yourself with idiots who know nothing about parenting.

I think everyone does! I did! It got to the point where I just had to listen and shake my head and say "Oh I'll have to try that" or something along those lines. Then just took it with a grain of salt. Mothers know their children better than anyone else...just do what feels natural!

If you didn't want someones advice then why would you bother posting a question?!
it's common knowledge that when people ask a question they generally get other peoples' responses.
