My friend and I are going to get tattoos tonight, and he wants this certain scripture that he believes Paul said. Something about, everyone is predestin to live in the time period that they are in, in the town that they are in, with the people that are around. Anyone have an idea what he's talking about???

isn't it funny how we look for only things that can support what we are doing. Like in your case, having a tattoo. You want to be guilt free so you are looking for phrases in the bible. Bible says a lot of other things, would you do that too. Helping the poor, stay virgin before marriage..don't lie.....you know the bigger things.

First off, Leviticus 19:27 "You shall not round off the side-growth of your heads nor harm the edges of your beard." If you're going to quote the bible, quote everything, not just the passages that back up your statements. No tattoos, no haircuts, no shaving, and my personal favorite "You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the sons of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself."

Second, no predestination, only free will? If your will is free, why would you take so closely to heart the words of men long since dead? Words that were written a thousand+ years before tattooing was socially acceptable, when it was solely reserved for harlots and criminals. The bible reflects the rules of the society that wrote it. If you all truly believe that the bible is law and not up to interpretation, you've all broken the rules - if nowhere but in Leviticus alone. Hypocrisy at it's best.

Let not the foolishness of man burden you. If the thought of someone else defiling their skin bothers you so much, ignore it and find someone else to spit your self-righteous blather at.

The verse doesn't ring a bell with me but.....

I have to agree with the first 2 posters. Tattooing is not a very wise decision here......especially if you are a believer

From a biblical standpoint, quoting Leviticus has the be just about the worst argument.... If you want to go there, then you can't wear clothing made of more than one material and a whole bunch of other things...so yea.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20- What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God and ye are not your own?
Vs. 20- For ye are brought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body, and in your Spirit, which are God's.

I won't lecture you about tattoos, that's been done. If you're looking for a specific verse, blueletterbible.com might help. You could search it out by the words he does remember from it.

Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD. Leviticus 19:28, Please do not have any tattoes put upon your body, it is against the Bible, and their is no such thing as predestintation, we have freewill.

Why mark up your body. Aren't you happy with the way God made it?

Tatoos are a waste of money that God has entrusted you to spend wisely. Use the money to help out someone who is hungry or needy. You'll find that more rewarding than a tatoo.
