Silent heat happens to virtually every dog after they stop bleeding. It usually lasts up to 4 weeks. Standardly, you should not spay the dog unless it has been 6 weeks since the last period. It is very dangerous, as there is more bleeding, and the tissues of the uterus are like jello. They break easily, and cause more problems in surgery. Our vet won't EVER do a dog right after it's heat, and I would not be surprised if your vet would tell you to reschedule the appointment. Either way, do book it at a later time, it is best that way.

The normal heat cycle last 3 weeks from the first day you notice bleeding. For most dogs, it occurs every 6 months, but this is variable. Some dogs only come in season once a year, others every 8 or 10 months. Generally speaking, once you have been through 2 heat cycles, you can determine the schedule your dog will be one from there.

About 3 weeks. The fertile week is at the end after the swelling goes down.
