2 days ago I took my dog to the vet to have her put to sleep. She had some health problems, some more serious that others. I know it's normal for a person to miss them and have some feelings of remorce, however, since she passed I have had the feeling that God is upset with me. My heart actually hurts all the time, and I feel like I'm going to have a heart attack. If it is mentioned in the Bible, please refer me to the answer. Did I do the right thing and it's the evil one who is causing this feeling, or is God truly upset with me? Thank you for your time.

The physical pain you are feeling in your chest is probably from grief and also related to anxiety and worry over whether you did the right thing.

When an animal is suffering as much as your dog was, it is humane and justified to put them to sleep. It is not the same thing as euthanasia for humans, because animals do not have souls (even though we love them dearly).

The Bible tells us man is responsible for caring for animals, and may also use them for food and to help them in his work. When an animal becomes so sick that it is no longer of use to man as a companion it is ok to end the animal's suffering as you do.

Nowhere in the Bible is man condenmed for putting down a sick animal. In fact, God is pleased that you showed compassion on a poor creature that cannot understand pain and suffering (as humans can - we can find meaning and purposed in it).

God bless you.

First off, my condolences, I have several dogs and I can relate to how precious they are, like members of the family.

Has God told you or conveyed to you that he / she / it is upset with you? I don't think you should be punishing yourself over something you can't say with absolute certainty is punishment from your God. You've read scripture, and it sounds like you're deeply religious, so perhaps you're reading too much into what could be your feelings of remorse making you feel guilty?

You should consult with a doctor about the physical pain you describe, loss of a pet is stressful and stress can lead to physical ailments including heart attack.

To the person who suggested pets don't have souls, just want to say that I have a dog who selflessly interposes on behalf of other dogs and members of my family. It's not training (he was a "pet rescue" dog, rescued when he was a puppy), it might be his natural tendency or personality, but the spiritual part of me might argue that's a sign of a soul.

If God abandons the beloved pets of human beings as soulless, then I spit upon this God! (Assuming I can find it!)

In the book of Genesis God gave man "dominion" over the animals. We are kings or lords of them, and this means that we are responisble for their lives and sometimes their passing.
THere is a whimsical book called "Dog Heaven" which really helped my family when we had to do the same thing a few years ago. You will feel better. Good luck.

God gave us complete dominion over all animal and plant life so it is not an offence to use them for food, clothing etc.
You did a humane deed and you did nothing against scripture, but your heart is sore because you were very attached to your dog, this pain will pass with time but meanwhile stop looking at this as an offence against God or the Bible.

Please don't hesitate to do this again if the need arises. It's simple compassion to take away the pain and suffering of a beloved creature.

You did the right thing. You did something wonderful. You gave a gift to something you loved.

It's barbaric that we can't do the same for humans we love who are in similar distress, if that's what's needed. Pain is a much bigger abomination than death. If I'm ever in a position to end the agony of a loved one in this way, I hope I have the courage to do so.

I am sorry to read about your loss, but we all lose animals and relations and friends on our journey..
That is life, your God cannot console you, nor bring your dog back as he is now part of a bigger scheme..
If I were you I would forget about this God thing you have, and be realistic, your dog has passed on and the God who you obviously believe in is a fanciful delusion created by men for their own political gain, and power..
If you really want to know about the lies and deception, then I suggest you do some research, and if you still believe in your misconception, then come and see me in Aussie and I will dispel it forever..
Too much alter wine, but the truth lies within my words..
Blessed Be... )O(

Edit:- Before all the thumbs down come, I just lost my mother, who was not my pet, and I am adult enough to deal with that, and I know where she is, and that is not a Christian Heaven, and my mother was of the best type of person anybody could wish to have known..

No sweety God isnt.
God made animals for us to enjoy but Killing an animal, especially if its for its own good and to put it out of suffering is not a sin to God.
Animals its hard to hear but they dont have souls, because if they did wouldnt God create them in his image as well?
Also in the Bible times they used to sacrifice animals didnt they?
I think God thinks you are a very loving owner for letting your dog have a peacful death and stop the suffering

I'm sorry for your loss and I can relate as my dog is my family. I'm sure that what you're experiencing is just latent guilt, and that's natural. Just remember that if your dog was suffering, you did the right thing.

People who are terminally ill should have that right. My Dad wants to die.....he is miserable. Why suffer...it only makes the Doctors and the pharmaceutical companies rich.
