if it's scanty, then where are all the rules saying we must walk down an isle, get married in a church, showers, etc?

could it be a tradition and not a godly command? I found "be fruitful"

To God marriage is a covenent (sacred promise) between a man and a woman. How they choose to dispay to others they they have chosen to make that promise to each other is a matter of tradition.

It is a big deal to promise your life to someone. Most people want to celebrate, and make a big show, while for others thats not important.

The only thing about marriage mentioned in the Bible is that it should be between 1 male and 1 female who are equally yoked. That means they both are Christians. The stuff you mentioned is just tradition. You can follow those traditions or not. By the way you don't need to get married in a church but I would recommend getting married by a Bible believing pastor instead of an atheist judge.

Genesis 2:24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

2 Corinthians 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

There is no need for a religious ceremony. It is a matter of following the legal procedures of the country. If you have a legal marriage only and belong to a church, it is appropriate so as not to stumble others to announce to the church (members) that you have been married on such and such day.

B. You are not required to have children if you marry, but most couples desire such.

It really IS all tradition. Being married before God and man is what's important. The rest ... well, it's up to you.

Read the bible, friend. read read read. don't take someone else's word on it. Read it for yourself.

Traditions are sometimes important to keep, sometimes not.

"Godly commands" in the bible are ALWAYS important to keep. But you have to understand who is speaking and to whom, what is the situation, the context, etc.

god bless
