I've noticed my puppy has tapeworms and rather than take him to the vet to get medication I first wanted to see if anyone knew of any effective homeopathic remedies to get rid of them. If no one has any then to the vet he'll go, but I just wanted to see first.

When I took him to the vet they did a fecal that came back negative. The vet told me to watch for rice looking things since he was a shelter dog and most likely ate a flea somewhere along the lines. They told me the only thing that would not show up on a fecal test would be tapeworms because they are small and they go to the bottom of the tube during the test so they can't see them. Everything else was fine with him, the only issue could possibly be tapeworms.

If the dog has been to the vet recently, you can just call and tell them he has tapeworms and get the pills.
Easy. Yes, it will cost some money, but there is NOTHING homeopathic that is going to take care of the tapeworms.

yes!! Go to www.naturalrearing.com. She has a remedy. I know it works because I used it for my pups and dogs. Will take care of hookworms too. No adverse effects and stool samples came back negative when I had them checked at the vet after worming. Economical too. I'd recommend taking a stool sample to the vet about 2-3 weeks after the second worming. There are some types of worms you can't see. These days some uncommon varieties are showing up probably due to imported dogs. For roundworms, you can buy medication, Strongid, from Foster and Smith without seeing a vet. It's safe for puppies. Works for tapeworms but not well for other types. The herbs are less expensive and work for a wider variety of worms.
Good for you for not purchasing over the counter stuff from the pet store. These often have side effects that are not necessary for your puppy to deal with in order to be wormed.

I'm all for homeopathic remedies, but tapeworms are best delt with by the vet. You may be told to give the dog a large dose of garlic, but be careful -- in large doses, garlic can be toxic. You don't have to go to the vet for tapeworm medication. You can buy it from Drs. Foster and Smith, and probably for a lot less than the vet would charge you for it. I have used their tapeworm meds many times for cats, and they work well.

There is no homeopathic remedies.
Look for a wormer with either fenbendazole or praziquantal. If you are absolutely positive it is a tapeworm then get the second wormer. If not get the first because it kills them all. Both are under fifteen dollars with praziquantal being the more expensive. The other runs about five dollars, but has the nasty side effect of vomiting. These are sold OTC, just read the ingredient label.

Garlic in moderation helps prevent internal parasites. Large doses will actually kill parasites that are already infecting (ie. active tapeworms). Garlic does this by destroying red blood cells which will cause anemia.
Go to the vet.
Garlic is just as likely to kill or harm your dog as it is to help with tapeworms. If youre careful about amounts then afterward you can add a bit of garlic to the food (very minimal amount) to prevent further parasites, but its best left alone if you dont know what youre doing.
Also, please dont assume theyre tape worms. Take a stool sample to the vet and have it tested before you purchase any product to deal with this. Round worms are much more likely (tape worms tend to have one worm which then lays eggs, it is unlikely youd see multiple worms).

You do not have to take the dog to the vet to get a wormer FROM the vet. If it is cost of a visit you are worried about.. Just stop in at the vet and tell them you need a wormer for your dog. You will need to know his weight.
I also think you are more likely seeing ROUND worms. Long, spaghetti looking... That is not a tape worm. Tapes are much harder to see with the naked eye and I think you just relate the length of the worm with the word 'tape'.
Anyway, do not use any over the counter stuff and tell the vet you saw round worms and need a wormer.

This is one time you need a vet. Sometimes you can just go in and ask for the meds and they'll give them to you without a visit charge. Try small town vet.

In the past, many used to swear on garlic. It is TOXIC though.
In case of worms /any worms/ I'd surely see the vet and trust him and not the "guaranteed all natural product".
